I just got the Koei Japanese color catalog.
I've read good things about them here so I requested a catalog from them.
Someone in the past said that the S models were made in Japan. Then where are F, G, GZ, GX, KN made in? Or what do all these codes stand for. They are similar except with different prices.
Actually, I first got the English version which is small. In it, it said to look in the Japanese catalog for more custom dou. So I did.
It's a happy catalog! ^_^

My Japanese is highly limited so it's mainly a picture book to me.

If you have questions, I suggest you contact Robert Stroud at www.bogubag.com. He can get you anything in the catalog cheaper than you can direct from Koei, and can explain all that stuff.

Neil-san,
I've order from bogubag.com before, but just a keiko-gi. I wasn't sure if it was legitimate at first so I didn't want to spend a lot but I thought the price was good.
Do you have the Japanese catalog? There's stuff in there not on the bogubag.com website that interests me.

Robert Stroud is extremely helpful.
He can get anything that Koei sells.
I ordered my bogu from him and he was extremely patient with all of my questions, and like Neil said, the prices are cheaper than buying from Koei direct.

I have the catalog. Robert can get you anything in there, and a few things that are not. If it's not on the website, just e-mail him and ask.

For those who have the Koei catalog, do any of you get those square patches shown on 2 pages near the back?

Those are kamon, family crests. They go on the doh. You only get them if you are of Japanese descent and thus have a family crest, or if somebody gives you permission to use theirs (like, your sensei).
Also, they're not patches. The cheap ones are stickers, the expensive ones are paint or foil (I think) and put in during construction of the doh.

Since kendo has expanded beyond Japan's borders less and less people have kamon on their doh. Another way to get one properly is to marry someone of Japanese descent. I use my wifes kamon. :cross_eye

Gendzwill-san,
theonion.com is strange.
Thanks for the info about kamon. I thought they were generic Japanese symbols, one of them is the Okinawan symbol -3-point wavy star.
