So which is a better choice? I'll be moving soon and the area there does not have Time Warner Cable available. I've been using Road Runner for like five years, and I've come to distrust all other broadband companies. So which is the better choice?

DSL Reports (http://www.dslreports.com/)
I haven't used either of the services you are asking, but this is a nice site to go to if you want to see what people have to say about the service in their area. What makes this site really nice is that you can search by area so you get reviews on how services are depending on where you live.

I'm sure you probably know, but if there's not many people in your area with cable internet, yours will be hella-fast.

I don't plan on going door to door and asking people. I can try calling and asking adelphia, but I doubt they'll give me an accurate number. Verizon is a bigger name, so more people might have it.

Well, dsl doesn't work the same as cable, it doesn't matter how many people have it, it will still go the same speed. Unless you have a network setup and all that mess...... like my school :normal:

It *does* matter though how far you are from the C.O. (central office). The farther you are, the slower the DSL speeds. I use Verizon though and have had not a single issue for three years. That's in the DC area.

Not necessarily. Everything depends on how the net is setup. My experience from ADSL anyway, speeds varied a bit from day to day.
I am happy to not use DSL anymore though, since all service providers seem to think that a 1 Mbps upload speed is a good idea. I am currently on a 10/10 Mbps cable for ~25 USD and quite happy with that. Being a student is nice ;)

 lucky. I'm on 100/100 mbps for like 45 usd.

I would however not benefit at all from 100/100 since I am connected through a wireless router, so my theoretical max speed is 54 Mbps anyway :)
Nicest thing is still being on a "students only" network: we have our own private DC-hub, mmmmmm :D
