I was just looking around the Eguchi website and saw they sell a men by Hasegawa.
Is this new? I have never seen a men with a clear plastic section, kind of like in ice hockey, curved and impact resistant.
Does anyone have this? Is this for pro-level kendo players only?

It would be cool to put a mirror tint job on the clear section. Then, it would have a robot look to it.

That men has been out for a couple years. Samurai999 had one. I think it's for everyone. Obvoiusly used for better eye protection.

My sensei has one, he says it feels odd to see without the mengane, kind of like the emperors new clothes. I've only seen him wear it working with children. I would think the younger ones might be more comfortable seeing a smiling face rather than a dark mengane.
There are no restrictions on who could use it. Damned expensive though as I recall.

I saw the Hasegawa Mujun in a kendo magazine. The tsuki looks cheap.

Kinda scare me.....i think if i needed more eye protection i would just insert a plastic eye visor into my men. I agree with Hai-hai, i didnt look great quality, more so the tsuki-do.

It would be strange having that increased feild of vision though.

Before the Hasegawa men they used to require kids in Japan to put a piece of plastic inside their men for eye protection. You can still buy those plastic pieces at some kendo stores. :cross_eye

one of my sensei uses it. Tried it on...you suddenly feel very vulnerable. Its gives a very good field of vision though...the prices do go up...the smaller the stitch the higher the price and quality.

Well, as a beginner who doesn't know what's good/bad/popular/cool, I don't plan on getting this item. Thanks for your input.
