Just because Xena has come up in another thread here I decided to go ahead and make a thread dedicated to her.
She may not be kendoka but she is a kick ass female who is adored and feared by males. She was the idol of many young girls who later becmae tomboy and embodies female strength... etc.

So tell your story about how you watched Xena (or still do) and think that her agressiveness could be helpful in kendo.
Or just write your opinion :)

not just xena but other women kendoka who are strong - I really want to be like my sempai in japan, Akita-sempai. She's tiny, but boy does she kick booty! She's really strong and forceful! boy do i wanna be like that!

See I have met so few female kendoka that I don't really have one to look up to. *sigh* oh well.

Even male kenshi can look up to a female kenshi... I certainly was always impressed by a woman that used to be in our club (Takeyama senpai). She had beautiful kendo that flowed and was very elegant to watch or play against her. I was sorry when she moved back to Japan as it was very instructional to practice with her or watch her in shiai.

my personal female role model is mrs yabe sensei. (mjer hachidan from near himeji castle)
shes tiny but all her iai is so big and strong and smooth and flowy and...

I loved Xena in her first and second season, the otres suxs the hell out. Used to love the fighting but the whole Gabrielle thing made me sick (not because of the lesbian thing but because she suposed to be a warrior not a freaking "I love you" chick)

funny isn't it how lots of the best kendoka/iaidoka that we look up to are so tiny!

mind you, if we're talking MAJOR role models, got to be sumi sensei. i know he's a guy but boy does that guy scare me. mainly because i've heard so much about him! Went to Sumi Seminar last year and didn't dare fence him (although he did spend a bit of time talking to me after he realised that i was taught in japan by a friend of his!)

If that's who I think it is, she schooled me and another guy at our first 3.dan testing. OOOF. quite impressive.
