I was browsing on Ebay and I found this... kinda tempted to buy it myself. Would make a great addition to my collection!

*note* I hope this isn't considered spamming. I'm not selling this! I just thought some other people here would appreciate this kind of stuff. If I broke any rules please delete this or move to it's proper forum. Thanks! :ninja:

That is a way cool set. MSU had a do that was very much like that.. with the take showing on the outside, no laquer, just the leather lacing to 'stiffen it'.
Wish I had space for it.. I'd buy it and make a display of it in some part of
the MSU world.
The current bid is >very< low for this kendo historical item.

That's a good find, but I don't think you can call it an antique.

Last winning bid went for nearly $300! :) I'm kinda glad... I would've hated to see it go so cheaply!

Hi Lucy,
The most probable reason you can't view the item is because its listed under WWII antiques/memorablia. Germany and I think Austria has very strict laws prohibiting the sale of such items.
Germany does not want its Nazi past to be glorified and so such items are banned. Whether its a blanket ban on all items to do with WWII (the Axis connection with Japan) or its just an oversight...well, that depends on what e-bay was instructed.

because the second picture is a ww-II era bayonet usage manual, not a kendo instruction manual. Obviously the JIA was adapting bogu for use in that role. Its an excelent idea, especialy considering the way the bayonet was viewed compared to the sword...

Its an excelent idea, especialy considering the way the bayonet was viewed compared to the sword...That would be jukendo and apparently, in shiai, these guys are (to quote a friend who witnessed such a shiai), "f***ing nuts!" At any rate, bogubag (http://www.bogubag.com/Bogu/Jukendo/jukendo.html) supplies modern bogu for jukendo. Since they have a huge shoulder pad, t appears they're big on stabs to the left shoulder and tsuki. Also, the kote appears to have extra padding over the thumb, maybe because there's a higher possibility of accidentally breaking the bone. I do wonder how many people still practice it.

well, theres almost no effective way to slash with a bayonet. There made to stab not cut. If you look at most post WWII bayonets, there not even sharp (i have one at home thats just a sharpend rod, came off a (i think) chinese version of the kalashnikov).
I would be interested to see it practiced.
