I feel like the only female in NW England

Hello...

I'm new to this forum and would like to introduce myself to all...

I am 25 and interested in all forms of European & Japanese Martial Arts - I am a Late Roman Horse Archer and English Civil war re-enactment Cavalry trooper.. these serious hobbies make up a complimentary part of a mature student degree in Archaeology that I am currently doing @ the University of Manchester.. I'm also doing a module of Philospohy and am looking to incorporate the budo philosophical ideals into my studies...

I train with 2 dojos in the Greater Manchester area of NW England - and unless i'm missing something, I feel like I'm the only female!! There is myself and one other female in one of my dojos - but that really seems to be it!

It'd be nice to hook up with other ladies in the Gr Manchester area and share thoughts on all things budo

Hi Paul...

Sorry I've not been at training for a number of weeks if it has been on... I've been an utter retard when it comes to anything other than re-enactments in the event season... I've travelled over 4000 miles in the last 2 mths on getting to and from events alone... so Sundays have been spent in the back of beyond camping under canvas and riding horses n waving swords about...

I'm co-ordinating the Late Roman Cavalry display this coming weekend at a show in Bridlington so It looks like I won't be back @ Bolton for another wk or so... oh, and please tell Mark that the Kendo book he kindly lent me is in the process of being read... It's safe in my bookcase - I was conscious he thought I'd forgotten about it...

i used to be a girlie in the north west, but then i moved back over to the side of the penines where barmcakes dont exist.

dont worry about being the only one, its a good thing, until you get jealous when other girls start that is...eherm...

I know how you feel! When the dojo is jumpin there are 3 of us girls, otherwise just little ol me. I cant wait till the grading coming up in a couple of weeks, I get to meet some more of the girls from other clubs.

Well actually...

I happen to know for a fact that there is a member of the Ladies National Team training regularly in the North West area of the UK (she also has a backround in re-enactment, and historical horsemanship coincidently)... you just have to look hard enough :wink:

Last year when I began kendo, I was the only female in our dojo and I'm neither the kind of female you bet to meet in a dojo: I felt a lot out of place. But now we are three and training has become much funnier!

Hello, sorry for the late response and as we haven't had any visitors thought i'd chip in.

I train in Preston, I've been the only girl for about 2 yrs now (except the odd beginner for the odd training). Feel free to come down/up sometime to train it would be nice.

Also if you do want to train with more women you should come down to squad training, there's plenty of fellow friendly females who love to see new faces.
