soooooooooo. I want to know what you all think a sensei should act like.
1. judges are human
2. humans are not perfect
3. Therefore judges are not perfect.
This seems to be generally agreed upon. Soooo who are usually judges? The sensei are usually the judges! Uh oh see where I am going?
1. senseis are judges
2. judges are not perfect
3. Therefore seneis are not perfect.

According to logic this should also be accepted by the general populous. Unfortunately some people have flawed logic. If a judge is not expected to be perfect, how can we expect our sensei to be flawless and how can we hate them for being flawed? Are we dare i say retarded? We have many people here that want perfect judging and that requires a perfect sensei. If you believe this, then I have no trouble with you. There are others who believe that we must cope with flawed judging and flawed sensei. The people that believe this have no error in their logic. But we have other that empathize with bad judges, but those same people do not accept flawed sensei. HMMM you all are idiots! Clear up your double standards before you post! If there is a perfect person among us that posts on KWF, then let them cast the first stone at all of us "trolls" and "bad ass mo fo's"! Hmmmmm I thought not. If vile hateful words have leached from your mouth, you are not perfect. How can anyone take themselves seriously when they have double standards and flawed logic running aimlessly throughout their craniums? If KWF is not a place for an imperfect HUMAN like me, then it is not an adequate place for you to cast your eyes upon as well. We all are human...dont say anything gay either like " i am not human!"

Now can some one tell me what a sensei is with out taking the human factor out of the him/her. I await your divine light that will deliver me from my ignorance.

Mister kurukuru
head down!
Right fist high in the air!
Spear clenched in the left hand!
I am proud to say that i am not perfect!
no high horse here BABY!

I'm replying like I replied to the other posts about judging..

Judges make mistakes, but they should make a concerted effort to minimize mistakes and to judge fairly and swiftly. We, the kenshi have to accept the good with the bad no matter what. This is what is stated in the sportsmans pledge at EVERY taikai. Bad or good, I'll take my calls as they come, but if a sensei comes to your dojo and apologizes for a missed call, like what happened to Hongsermeier's wife, you know something is wrong. Ota sensei (I must've stated this like a million zillion times already) always comes to our summer camp up here in Norcal. Every time he conducts the shimpan seminar, he always points out (to the same shimpan as a matter of fact) that they are doing something wrong. He even went on to say that shimpan aren't perfect, but must be able to see a good hit. The shimpan who call a bad hit or don't call a good hit are actually doing a disservice to the kenshi on the court.

To make a long story short, I accept the calls as they are given, but you won't get a smile from me about a match of mine that is called incorrectly.

Here is some light.........

If there were no sensei who then would you pick as shimpan?

Meaning, it is human nature to make mistakes and the day I meet a perfect human being is the day I die. You want to compete in a tournament? Then put up with it!:p

Teachers and judges are human. Thus, they're prone to error.
I've abandoned the notion of the 'perfect' sensei a while ago.

However, the thing is: is the volume of mistakes they make superior or inferior to yours?

Of course nobody is perfect. However most of us would prefer to correct our imperfections rather than celebrate them. Being imperfect is no excuse for not trying.

Sensei mo ii desu.
The kendo idea that one is always a student whether you are a beginner or hachi-dan applies here. Therefore, as a student of kendo, you do not profess to be completely perfect, and there is always something to learn.
This means that judges can make mistakes whether they are at a local taikai or the World Championships.
You could lose at every bout of every competition in life because of bad judging but it shouldn't matter. Kendo is "learning the way of the sword", not "winning as many taikai as possible".

You might be saying, what is a non-bogu-wearing beginner doing giving a more experienced kendo player, and thus my senpai, words of wisdom. Well, these are just statements that I have heard and am just passing it on in a paraphrased manner. None of it is originally my own thought.

you are not even in bogu yet and you talk that!?!?! That takes some nerve to lecture anyone on competition or any other aspect of kendo when you are still trying to figure out foot work.

junkyman...I unfortunatly have to agree with Hai Hai's first statement. There will always be room for improvement. At least he does admitt the words are from someone else and not take credit for himself.

A sensei should always be trying to improve his/her kendo.
A sensei should always be trying to improve his/her students kendo.

the point he is regurgitating is correct, but it is still a little annoying to have him to have a 0 kyu lecturing everyone. I am fairly new to this forum but I have heard from a few people that most of the more annoying, high and mighty, know it all types on this board are just beginers and that is a bit lame. I think that is why guys like kurukuru like to come here and mess with people.

Hai_hai

Actually, there is no 0 kyu. By the way junkyman, you are gay.

Hai Hai....ahhhh since I had to agree with you earlier, I get to correct you now. There is a 0 Kyu. It's called mokyu (spelling?). It's for people who have not tested yet, therefore hold no rank.
On to the rest of your comment. It is funny that after only 13 posts you can make the definate statement that junkyman is gay.

Even though this might be a quote from your senpai,
I owe you a slight apology for anything I might have said to offend you Hai Hai.

But please do something about those polls....

To junkyman,
If you read the topic subject, it said to "grace me with your light", not "come out of the closet and be as gay as possible", which you did effortlessly.

Ok, I really can't let this slide,
what's the obsession with gays Hai Hai?
In denial?

Hai_hai

I have no obsession with gays. Maybe it's you who has the obsession with gays because you are having trouble coming out of the closet on your own.

If you and junkyman have a "special" friendship, I'm not judging you for your alternative lifestyle.

I am sorry to say... but people are really getting very personal these days with the post... if you have anything negative to say.. and not related to kendo.. do it over PM...

and regarding about this thread...
hmm to me.. the question what is "Perfect" and how would you define "Perfect Kendo". I true what kurukuru that all senseis are not perfect, because they are human.. and human are of course not perfect, but they can be up to a level when they are special (or maybe dare to say "Better" than most/everyone else). The level of shinpan is of course much much higher and with greater experience from the Hachi dan then to someone like from Yon or Go dan.

As to people saying Sensei's to be perfect, I pretty sure that people who say "PERFECT SENSEI" or "PERFECT KENDO" dont literally they have perfect kendo... and I'm pretty sure that many people find that Hachi dans are count as PERFECT SENSEI/KENDO but they dont mean that literally, becasue there is no such thing as "PERFECT"... I believe their meaning is more of... "their skill in kendo is so high that I myself can not be seen in that level.. or just so high that I or anyone who is not a hachi dan can make a ippon or even a 'clear' ippon on him" (please correct me if many people do feel this why ~ this is what i believe)

thus.. please Misterkurukuru... i think people give you crap is because they way you express things in a why where your opinion is correct, and everyone else is wrong.. and if they say you are wrong... you get really personal about it...

So please dont take it personally about what people say... if you believe in what you believe, then just stick with it...

Happy training
Cheers

Al
