Just a short reminder that the Shindo Muso Ryu Jodo Demonstration will be tonight, Thursday at the West LA Kendo Dojo.
Kendo practice will be from 7:30. Jodo will be after the end of the first session.
There will be time after the demonstration to answer any questions. I hope to see some of you tonight.

I would like to ask the members of this forum a question.
First off I do know this forum is worldwide with only a few members in the LA area so my question doesn’t apply to everyone. However my question does pertain to Jodo training within the US Kendo community in general.
I have posted several notices about three demonstrations of Jodo (by high ranked Shindo Muso Ryu instructors)
Each demonstration consisted of *all* the Kendo Renmei Seitei Kata plus many Koryu Kata as well. I also invited any questions or comments with a view to developing an interest in formal Jodo training. We know Jodo is very rare even in Japan so I was hoping to generate some interest.
So far nothing has happened. Nobody has showed up to *any* demonstration posted here and nobody has made any comments about Jodo training at all. Just total silence and seemingly indifference.
I must admit I'm discouraged. :(
Jodo training, grading and competition within the US Kendo community is non-existent yet at each event I go to or Dojo I visit I always hear someone say that yes, they would love to start Jodo practice but there is no opportunity in the US. It's puzzling to me.
We hoped to start Jodo training for all Kendoka who wish to learn next month (not only in LA but anywhere we are invited) but if nobody is interested then I don’t want to waste the teacher’s time.
What do you think?

I am bumping this thread.
With zero feedback to my question I think that indicates there no interest in Jodo information or training schedules on this forum. Sorry I couldn't get it going.

Nambu-san
There is an Events section on Kendo World where you are supposed to advertise events.
When I have advertised European events on this forum or on E-budo I have:
a) always done it apologetically as it is not a discussion (it is an advert)
b) never expected it to generate any additional interest. I hoped but didn't expect
If you are trying to attract newcomers to jodo then this is not the section to put it in. The jodo section is read by people who already do jodo and already have their own sensei and organisations. Furthermore, paper advertising in your locality is more likely to generate interest. People aren't going to travel hundreds of miles on the offchance that they might like jodo.
Hope you haven't been too discouraged from your work to get people to do jodo.
Best regards

Thank you Andy. I will do as you suggest. I admit I was becoming discouraged but now I have some guidance as to what to do I will show a little more perseverance.

Hi Ynambu
I tried to reply to this post when you made it, but just now, doubtless through lots of holiday fatigue and some alcohol, have managed to remember my login to K-W.
You ask about why folks aren't responding to your offers of jodo instruction, and I would like to comment on my own experience here in Canada. We have offered, at the University of Guelph, some very good opportunities to study koryu arts to the North American martial arts community. In the last few years we have had multiple menkyo kaiden / hachidan jodo instructors, the current and last soke of Niten Ichiryu, as well as the top instructors in North America of multiple lines of koryu instruction at the Guelph School of Japanese Sword Arts which has run for about 15 years I think.
We have also presented a week long course with a recently licensed Japanese Swordsmith of an uninterrupted lineage of 25 generations. As well as a yearly smithing course with a North American smith for about 15 years.
This has all been going on for close to 20 years and we have never done more than broken even on the expenses for these events. In other words, we have discovered that there is very little real interest in North America in the koryu arts.
Not much of a surprise to me by now, but given the amount of chatter on the internet one might think otherwise.
Regardless, my advice is to simply keep on doing what you're doing without expecting any sort of good turnout, no matter who you offer as instructors. If you can cover your expenses, great. If not, remember that if you have to go to Japan to practice with your sensei, it will cost you $X and if you lose less than $X you are still ahead.
