I was unable to find a post for this, but when I asked my sensei what size is recommended. Apparently, he said I was suitable for either a 2.35 or 2.40, since I told him I was 5'7. I am planning on getting a iaito from Nishiden, but it only comes in the measurement of "sun". What is a proper size for a 2.40 shaku?

i belive the notation 2.4 stands for 2 sun 4 shaku so 2.4 sun would be the correct measurment. At least for shinai a 39 or 3.9 is 3 sun 9 shaku

Measuring the sword:
Bu
1/10 of a sun, 0.3 cm
Nagasa
Measure of length of blade from kissaki to mune machi in a straight line
Shaku
30.2 cm. or 11.9 inches.
Sori
Measure of curve of blade from nagasa to mune at deepest point.
Sun
1/10 of a shaku.

Sorry, but you've got this backwards.
2.4=2 shaku 4 sun; 3.9=3 shaku 9 sun
10 bu=1 sun; 10 sun=1 shaku. It's all decimals-simple math. Therefore, 2.40 shaku=24 sun.
Converting to metric:
1 bu=0.303 cm
1 sun=3.03 cm
1 shaku=30.3 cm
HTH.

Ditto.
2.4 syaku (or shaku) is 2 syaku, 4 sun.
