As the information say they are not kendo kote but kote for Itto-ryu kenjutsu. They are use to recive strikes from a bokuto in paired practice.

There are one or two pictures of people using those kote on koryu.com under Ono-ha Itto-ryu

A while back we had a visit from two very experienced Kendoka who also practice Itto-Ryu.

They bought a pair of these kote along and we all had a try. I believe that there are metal strips inside the forearm part... you certainly couldn't feel a thing when you were hit with a bokken. At nearly £700 a pair I guess you'd expect to be protected..!!!!

If I remember rightly, their bokken seemed slightly heavier and of a slightly different design to a standard Kendo Bokken.

Also the cutting was significantly different... extremely interesting to see...
