Just to get a number...who else from Kendo World Forum is going to Glascow? I know Tonin, James n' Mingshi will be there.
Look for the bloke with the Yomiuri Giants baseball cap...
Antonin

Yep, 'll be there as well.
Look for the tall bald guy with a moustache. WEll, that's not me: that's James. But he knows me. I'll be the incredibly handsome and elegant Frenchman. You can't miss it.

If you see a guy going into computer-rage at the judical terminals during WKC, thats me ;).

26th June 2003, 06:25 AM
I'll be there saturday, iaido training friday saturday sunday and a bit of kendo with some friends at a local dojo. More emphasis on iaido though as we don't get to see each other very often and we both need the practise/criticism...not very often you get to tell a sixth dan he's losing his touch!!:D :D
Are we going to challenge all the teams to a match? - Kendo world squad takes them ALL on at once! ( and naturally wins with our amazing skill and technique)
I'm the big guy with moustache and I'll be mostly wearing...an England footie shirt! That should wind the locals up....
oh and I'll be seeing my mate Trevor from kendo world.

I'll be there with two friends for the 4th and the 5th as a spectator. Will there be any keiko during that time that I can attend (in all my 0 kyu glory) or at least watch?
Does that mean I should pack my bogu?

Ill be the one looking worried about people like Danny Boy (and I only volunteered to tie ribbons on people ;-)
As far as I can work out there isnt any WKC keiko for spectators but Taiseidokai have a club night thursday (not sure if this is happening though - guys ?)
However some of us are meeting up for a bash - Tim do you remember how to tie your men on still ?
Im looking forward to meeting people ive seen on my travels in the US, RSA and Singapore & HK
See you all in Glasgow soon !

doesnt the grill bit go on the back of your head, Phil?
wait til you see my posh new do....a bronze base colour with mother of pearl, 80 piece bamboo, 1mm stitch on deerskin.. Class or what! You will be so dazzled by it I'll knock you half way around the room before you realize you've been conned again...:D
BTW I ran an iaido class at Kelvin and seem to remember the floor was pretty solid... hope they've changed it or there'll be a lot of bad ankles a la Kendo World injury bulletins...
Can we not 'take over' the hall after the matches are finished for some (allegedly) friendly bouts? Boo hiss spoilsports etc!!!
Phil, hope you wrote the software better than you hit men...or I'll end up worlds champion and not even have to have a match...:D

Im disappointed - Id thought you were all style and no substance & now you've let me down on the style ;-)
you'd best puit scratch coat on that fancy new Do of yours - youre going to need it !
And NO I DIDNT WRITE THE SOFTWARE !
However I will have admin access to the results database & I am a man of few scruples, so cash offers considered - after all its your best chance of winning anything (mine as well come to think of it) ;-)
I made a point of trying to avoid computers at all but didnt quite run fast enough so now ive got to dress posh as well, sigh....
see you guys soon

2nd July 2003, 05:25 AM
hey, this is moocow65 and tenken LIVE from glasgow at the moat house hotel. what can i say, we're both dead tired from jet lag and walking 5 hours to kelvin hall. we just ate dinner, but we didn't eat with the team cause we were asleep and nothing was gonna wake us up. we miss our pals, especially mr kurururu, inouye, honda, mr ikuiku, TBF, the Hongs, and everyone else from the SCI. the exchange rate here sucks. it's less than half. tenken just traded 500 dollars and he got back 3 pounds. so we're not too sure what to do about omiage. i guess we'll just steal the towels from the hotel and there you go. so expect a towel from scotland mr kurukuru. so now i'll pass it over to tenken. we still got about 5 min and 30 seconds left on this computer before it shuts down. laters.

Did any of you see tenken's matches? the japan web site said he lost to Ando, but i am not sure if that what round that was in. Just wondering what you thought about his jodan style?
moocow65
6th July 2003, 01:26 AM
well, well, well, so much to talk about. well let's see first off with the women. mi-chan lost in the round-robin and then i yelled at her and she was mad at me. but during the team competition she tied the korean girl, a cute one i might add. she got a nice kote on her, and at first they both did ai-men, and we all thought mi-chan hit first.. but oh well. so she was happy. the match of the day was definitely kaori kikunaga. she was MEAN. she did a mean tsuki on the other cute korean girl. she got a kantosho for that. shannon and elizabeth both made top 16 and they got kantosho.
now on to the men. what can i say? i was very very very disappointed in some of the judging. but first off. ando almost lost in the round robin to an australian mate. he got a nice kote on him, but ando came back and got two mens i think. i'll let tenken tell his tale of kendo. chris beat a korean dude and then beat dean.... well you know, and he got top 8. oh yeah. and this italian guy BEAT the japan captain hirao. well, he beat him, but not according to the shinpan. he got two CLEAN mens on hirao, and only one shinpan raised the flag both times. he then lost, but not by a men or kote, but by hansoku. one for some kind of tsubazariai thing and the other for being pushed out. there was plenty of booing from the crowd. and worst of all, he didn't get kantosho. on the bright side, the shiai went very smoothly and very very quickly with the exception of court 3 which took forever. now it's time for the team competition... we'll see how that goes...
p.s. met khawmenglee
p.p.s. saw mingshi, but i didn't talk to her. .
laters.

6th July 2003, 01:48 AM
this is the tale of the greatest jyodan in the tournament today. I first got out of the round robbin beating very one with 2 points. then i played a dude from gremany. he was pretty ruph with me but I managed to pull though. He hit one clean dou off of me but one problem with it was, he said " kote!!" the next person was a huge jyodan guy. it was the battle of the century. Jyodan VS Jyodan the croud went wild when the shiai started. I eventualy beat him with one men and hiki kote ( which i missed) then finally I played the japan champion Ando. I played him for clase to 4 1/2 mins but he deafeted me with one kote and a hiki men. But one thing I learned from all this fights were that "Japan IS beatable" they are not gods, and almost everyone haas a chance of deafeting them. well, tired now so going to sleep... good night everybody.:o

Thx for the report from the two-headed Tenken-Moocow monster.
Kaori got a tsuki? Nice!! Man, I'd better not piss off Kaori if I see her at practice. She might give me a bad looking hickey. :D LOL Anyways, congrats to the US women who got Kantosho. Especially my homegirls from Norcal. Great job!!
Ya.. Its interesting that in the Kendo world, the Japanese team is usually thought of as the "Dream Team" sorta analogous to the US team in bball. The best in their respective activity. But, as time goes on, the rest of the world sorta starts to close ground on them. I guess if this was the case, then Miyazaki would be to kendo as MJ was to basketball? Maybe. *shrug*

Close one between Japan and Korean team. Japanese Senpo won with a hiki do point, Korean chuken won with a men point, everyone else ending in hikiwake. Kim Kyung Nam and Eiga faced off in the tie breaker. Eiga winning the tie breaker with a tsuki.
A single point separates #1 and #2...

moo moo, this is moocow reporting from the moat house hotel. the sayonara party just ended, and now all the sensei and people are partying in the lobby. well, the team matches were awesome. hahahah i finally got to compete after two loooooooooooooooooong days of watching. we almost ranked number one in our pool, but japan did just a little bit better against us on the other teams, so we ranked second. we then went against great britain. it was a good match. i didn't compete. yang d. lost to the first guy. he was good. he got kantosho. a matsuda tied the second. but yang c, yoshimura m, and hosokawa took it home for us. the next match was the long awaited rivalry between the us and canada. yay, i got to compete. yang d, went against taguchi and he scored a men so we were up by one. then it was my turn. i went against kamata and it was a tough match. just like to say that it was no holds barred out there. we were all rough. we ended up tying each other. yang c went against asaoka and he got a men on him so we were now up 2-0. hosokawa tied raymond, so we had the match. yoshimura tied ariga and we finally got third place after 21 years. gotta give props to everyone. they all played their hearts out. so now it was the us against korea. man, it was a good match. yang d, fought hard, i think his name was lee? i'm not sure, well he got a sagari kote on him, and so he lost. then it was the cow's turn. i went against the 10 foot tall kim. i'm guessing he's the younger brother of kyung-nam kim. well anyways, this guy was a stud, but i don't think he ever went against nito before. heheheh. well about 15 seconds into the match, he tsuki-ed me and it got caught and so i used my right arm to get it out of the way and i ended up knocking his shinai down, but they gave me the hansoku instead. sucks cause that threw my whole game off. well, luckily i ended up tying him. so i brought it to yang c. he went against chea, the same guy he went against at santa clara. chea got a kote i think. and just about as time ran out, he got a kote back and so they tied 1-1 again. so it was yoshimura's turn. tough match. he had to go against sang-sub park whom i think is they second best guy. he lost 1-0. hosokawa's last match was against kyung-nam kim. their number one guy. he left everything he had on the court. it was a really tough match and although we lost, i had new-found respect for our us guys. so for tenken, this is moocow saying what's uppers to my buds: mr. kurukuru, inouye2, williamhonda, katsu3, hongsmeier, kawaii, TBF, mr. ikuiku, and all the other SCI guys. as for the sayonara party.................. let's just say that some weird stuff happened. i'll tell you guys about it at Sundays. oooooooooohhhhhhhhhh yeah... i almost forgot. i took pictures with the khaw man, and mingshi, and george mccall. AND the two awesome studs who made all this possible.... ALEX AND THE HAMISH. YES THAT'S RIGHT, I MET THE MODERATOR!!!!! heheh, i thought he was gonna kill me, but he's a great guy, and alex is an awesome kendoka. he's really good. hmm.. i only have a minute left and i don't wanna spend another £ so i can't proofread. just wanna say good luck to uto sensei for her 5-dan examination and i'll see you guys later. damn this post was long. what's up guys. i won't be practicing at JCI but i'll show up. i got work till about 9:30. i'm still dead tired from the tournament. well, i wouldn't be, but since our flight was delayed 5 hours and i got home at 3 am and went to sleep at 4 am, then had to wake up at 5 am and work at disneyland for 8 hours, then i had to drive home and work 5 hours at my other job, then had to sleep and wake up and work at disneyland again. yeah.. i developed the pictures, so you can see the pictures of khawmenglee and mingshi, and my main man hamish, and my other main man alex. i'll try to see if i can bring a tv or something so we can watch some matches i recorded. dammit, i can't find my picture of me and shinzato!!!!!!! hmm.. maybe it was someone else's camera?? i sure hope so or i'll be pissed. anyways.. i'll probably see you guys at JCI.. i'll get there around 10:30 or so, so don't leave without me. oooooohhhhhhh yeah... one more thing. this message is for mr. kurukuru. tenken and i made A***-KUN IN SCOTLAND!!!
