better yet the idiots from the karate club, huge liability for the other martial arts groups (especially kendo) if they go and injure themselves because then we could come under serious scrutiny about safety.

I think the first one is fine for what it is - he uses some traditional sword stuff which looks a lot better than just twirling.
The cutting party was sad. That's when bad things happen.

I'm sorry... but I don't think that he's that good...
Yes, everyone has to start somewhere... and this is just my opinion... but I don't think he would have lasted too long in feudal japan doing that...
... who's moosashi? Do you mean musashi? Or is it someone else entirely?
... or is it just another translation?
Please don't take offense to my post, I don't mean it in a bad way.

If it's staged, it's still funny. If it's not, it's hilarious.

Yeah, he's just looking for flash - not practicality. It's like when people buy an SUV then never take it off the city streets (sort of).

but there is something somewhat obscene with how he jerks the sword around from his waist...That's actually the part I was most impressed with. It looks like a tsuka block/strike, which is standard in a few koryu that I know of. Sure, it's XMA and he's not great, but he could be a lot worse, afaiac.

oooo, if your talking about when he puts it in the sheath and quickly jabs it foward about a foot, then yeah that was really the only half-pratical attack there.

why alot of kendokas likes to diss people of other martial arts forms.. or even those whos just playing and filiming it for fun..
I think a kendoka should be modest and humble.. there is no need to flame...

Landorph, I know where you're coming from. Noone is dishing other arts. What we're worried about is morons who twirl swords like toys and disrespect them.

I dont know, compared to most of the videos of noobs twirling swords this guy is pretty good. You have to give him credit for some things.
-His sageo is not still in a pretty knot like when he bought it.
-Also he at least as the blade pointing up. That's impressive for self proclaimed swordsman. :)

let the kid have his fun. There aint many samurai in teh hood. Keep going little Jamurai. Lol, for your average non-sword-art practicioner he's good enough to show off and that's all he was trying to do.

This young man has good reflexes, but come on, why is this posted on a website of this calibur? I can picture him riding up on a skateboard, for crying out loud! This isn't an anti-youth statement. The next generation are our future, in terms of lineage. Who can't appreciate good hand/eye co-ordination? Still, there are 1,000 better examples of really good, quality, EXPERIENCED swordsmanship on youtube alone! (For me, the baseball uniform immediately takes 2 points off the performance.) Not to be a stiff, dull, judgemental, fussy, old traditionalist...sure the kid has some talent, but seriously, what's next? Jedi Knights?

It's always nice to see a rich guy swinging a boken, or is it? I like the architecture... nice pad. It's not about putting yourself on the stage. Stay humble and work hard. Should everybody who aspires to be a musician play in front of an audience of thousands? Mmmmmmm...no, not really. Granted, I didn't need to put the kid down, either. (Or the rich guy.) Show me Mastery or don't waste my time. Please understand, I am fully aware that the same can be said of my ramblings. Say something meaningful or shut up! Thanks for pointing out the absurdity of my statement.

well I sure hope not...
I find it quite amazing this one, it is so cheesy. I particularly like the leaf sequence and the music. Even if I knew nothing about kendo and were looking for a dojo, I don't think I would train with that guy after seeing such a trailer. Would you ?

The facts read as such...anyone with a big ego and too much self-confidence can broadcast themselves. Big whoop! Many silly monkeys display themselves to the world. Are they jackasses? Most likely...I know I is!
