They haven't updated their newsletter since Feb. of 2001. Are they out of business or something?
Check it out at http://www.auskf.info

Yeah I know, it is kind of unsettling.
Maybe it is just because there isn't that great of a following for Kendo in the States (As much as I hate to admit it. BTW I'm an American. Ohh yeah there are those flag things)
There are not out of business because I joined the GNEKF (Greater North Eastern Kendo Federation, a division of th AUSKF)
back in April.
Maybe they just haven't gotten to it  .
Sorry, I know this isn't really helpful .

It seems that the folks who maintain the website are busy doing other things. Kendo has quite a following in the states. I think in my area we have several hundred kendoists and a well maintained website. www.kendo-pnkf.org The folks running the AUSKF don't seem to be as internet savvy or they are too busy to update the site with information. For example the AUSKF championship is the 5th and 6th of July. It seems that information is only sparingly on the site. I am surprised the site has not been well maintained, but this is not reflection of the popularity of Kendo in the states.

A website is a tool, like any other. It must be maintained to be effective and useful. Perhaps, because the internet is new to so many, they do not realize its nature yet. So many put up websites without realizing they need as much attention as any other tool. I hope they take better care of their bogu and shinai as the conditions of the tools indicate the spirit of the owner.

Sorry, that's incorrect. That is NOT the AUSKF website. It is the "Kendo America" website, a separate endeavor. They even indicate this on their first link and point to the AUSKF website.

As the former web administrator for the AUSKF web site I will clear this up for all of you. The domain kendo-usa was never owned by the AUSKF. The web site was posted as a service to the AUSKF. The reason for the change is because I was no longer receiving up to date information from the current administrators of the AUSKF. I did not wish to have a site filled with stale content so elected to have the AUSKF get their own domain and have someone else take care of it. I assisted them on this transition and the the result is what you have today.
I have many long term goals for the current Kendo America site. As my personal life allows I will be adding content. Poeple are always welcome to send ideas for inclusion although they may not happen right away.
Sincerely, Curtis Marsten

The site's not current but it's not too far off. The latest newsletter (http://www.auskf.info/mainpages/news.htm) is for July 2003. The events (http://www.auskf.info/mainpages/events.htm) page is a bit out of date, but not too bad. Hope they can update soon!

Hmm this is interesting. The latest item which is old on the events page is the November 9th shinsa in L.A. , so even if my bogu is well cared for, Im not sure you would know the difference.
My Name is Richard Hill, I am the current AUSKF webmaster and the designer of the new page. The AUSKF web page is located at http://www.auskf.info I update dojo information and correction requests on a weekly basis. Contact information for updates, assistance etc is on the webpage.
It took quite a lot of work to put the new AUSKF web page together, and it is a continual struggle to keep new information coming. As a National Federation, it is amazing how many people will criticize an effort, but not many offer any help. One person trying to keep a website filled with content is more than should be expected for a federation this size. From what Curtis stated, this is what made him leave the job. I do wish however that maybe one day, we could combine resources since the goal is basically same, and why duplicate information.
As to no reent information, there are links that ask people if they would like to help generate content, and since the page has opened, I have only received 2 offers from beginners, who really can not offer much. One person offered to write a seminar review, with no results so far.
So, to those who are worried that the AUSKF web site is stale, when was the last time your local federation offered any news? The answer is ....never...
If anyone wants to help make the AUSKF web page a better site, I'm all ears if your willing to help. Ideas are great, but Assistance is what is really needed.
Richard
