black...with black stitching...and black leather.... and black himo... probably black then for beginners. Notice some school club teams in Japan had colour coordinated do, restrained colours though, no flourescent pinks etc.... quite good.

I usually get it cut short on the sides and back and I leave it medium length on top.

I have a camelon blue.. It is so cool color, but when I went Shiai and promotion test, I'm the only one guy who has strange(?) color...... :-)

I think a brownish do is fine. It's not necessarily a "sensei do". I don't think there's anything wrong with getting the same color do as sensei anyway. I think sharkskin (same) do is typically more of a kodansha do.

my bogu has red stitching, and the doh is very dark cherry. I was told when i bought it that this dark cherry is as acceptable as black in terms of neutral colours in kendo.....i havnt been laughed at yet, at least not for my bogu :D

Pokie and I both reckon the white with blue do on the koei catalogue looks pretty cool. Does anyone actually have that do and whatcha think of it??

Just the 'red dot' pattern

I got lucky with it really, i ordered from 9 circles but had chosen a fancy stitching pattern, they called me the next day to tell me that if i wanted that stitching i would have to wait 4 weeks, but they happened to have one in stock exactly as i ordered except with the red dot stich. And i could have it by the end of the week.

Ah. I got it with Purple/White cross. Had to wait 7 weeks to get it from the factory... But I got it now... It's very shiny even after my fellow keendoka trying to break it in for me after my first practise wearing it...:D

Yes i know tht one,

During my first practice wearing it, Nishi broke his shinai on it, and everyone else was traying to follow suit.

Our strangest coloured "doh" has got to be a black with three silver vertical stripes, one on the right, centre and left....under certain lighting it looks like steel.

We are getting a bit of a reputation for being a bit glamorous i think...

Just got a GREAT idea. National flags doh. So the Japanese kenshi would have white doh with a red dot in the middle, Koreans would have white with the blue/red yin/yang in the middle with black outer stripes, USA would have the U.S. flag, etc. THAT would be cool.

While on the subject of dos, i'd like to know if there is a big difference "protection wise" in comparing Koei's yamato do and its 50pcs yamato do? are you just paying for a fancier look with the 50pcs yamato do?? :ditsy: thanks!

Nishi

Do you mean "yamato do" vs "Bamboo do"? If so, i beleive the bamboo do is heavier, and at higher risk of flaw and premature damage. I have only ever owned "fibre do" so the advice i pass on to you is from a godan friend of mine who is shopping for new bogu and has opted for the yamato option this time. I cant be 100% sure, but "fibre do" has been great!! no complaints at all.
