No its not.

We have people that have never even done Kendo who practice. It is slightly advantageous if you have done Kendo Kata for some time and understand the roles of Uchidachi and Shidachi. Thats where the similarity ends. The rest is totally different.

Most of us have done or still do some other form of budo but I noticed a marked difference with people who have not done weapon training and hold it like its a seperate entity rather than an extension. Also we have Iai guys doing Niten with Iai characteristics. Old habits die hard and it takes years to get out of them and seperate them.

Problem is regardless of previous grades you are not going to get a chance to practice unless you have plans on coming to Kyushu Japan

Jarlaxle...No real requirement(grade) to start Nito. There are some drawbacks to starting too early. It is usually recomended to wait till nidan or higher. This allows you to understand more about the mental parts of Kendo first. Also, if you start nito, some people just love to do tsuki against nito. Kinda scary for a beginner to get hit that way. Also takes a LOT of strength. One kenshi I know has a piece of steel in his shinai to workout with to gain strength. :cross_eye

Oh I see.... big difference between two heavens and two swords. Dont know why people get so easily confused.
