Okay. I admit that I'm a little bit bored. But just a light survey to see where WKF people fall in terms of "kendo craziness".

As I learn more I think I will move up the chart. Currently I think I'm somewhere between level2 and level 3. I drive just over 60 miles one way to practice and go usually 3 times a week. Wife thinks I'm level 1. :cross_eye

Confirmed Level 3. I have slept with my bokken before, but nothing happened. It just stayed under my pillow when I found out the place I was staying in was incredibly unsafe. Honest. :ninja:

tyte! I'm up for it ^_^. I want to see his So Kal kendo in action.
Okay back to the subject, I sleep next to my men and kote that still needs some ventilation and keiko-gi (still kind of sweaty from practice, but my t-shirt absorbs most of the sweat). I would've been able to practice kendo 4 times this week, but I skipped practice today T_T.

Once I woke up in the morning and found some mysterious lines/marks on my face...
Lesson: Don't sleep with your Shinai!!! (Which makes the Bokken a better option.)
----------------
Last week for once I walked down to the park in the neighborhood mid-day with my Naginata, DRESSING in Hakama and Keikogi. I was thinking, hmmm, someone will call the police if I swing a long stick around... and dressing in Dogi just makes me look more "proper".

I'm a level 3 by default...however, my fiancee is a shodan, and i have considered squandering all our money on "training in japan". I am constantly shopping for new bogu though i dont need it, and i manage to stear most conversations into a kendo related topics with perfect strangers.....i may be a closet level 2 :D

I think I am a level 3... but I missed few classes due to family matters and injury.. Whenever I could not make it, I always feel guilty......

lol, I think I am at level3 at the moment, but I have never thought about sleeping with my shinai, I wonder what will that feels like, maybe I will try it one day since the idea has already gotten into my mind lol. About the code I dont know what code it is but I certainly have been and will be getting a shit load of it at Uni, so I think I will pass on that one.

I am a beginning kendoka, but I am extremely devoted to learning all that I can. I haven't had to sleep with my bokuto yet . I can already feel as each practice comes that I am getting more and more devoted. When it comes time for me to move, the location of my home will certainly be near a dojo.

Well, I must review my degree of crazyness.
This weekend I was with some friends at the sea shore, we had to share rooms.
On one of the breakfast, the friend who was sharing the room with me told us that I dreamt on kendo and keiko.
I speak in my dreams, and move too, it was easy for him to understand the content of my dreams... ...."hai!!!, "yaaa- Mennn!!"
Now I understand why many mornings I'm so exhausted when I woke up.
Snoze, Rei, snoze.

I have to say I am a 2.5. I have a boken next to my bed but its not because of kendo but because being scared someone climbs through my window at night

I reckon I'm at level 3. I've stopped fighting in my sleep so much although it was bad for a while (I was exhausted and even worse not getting any better at fighting). I've really only started recently (about 2 months now) but I am loving kendo. The club I train with are helpful and only occasionally laugh at my attempts (in a nice way tho)

I would have to say Devoted bordering on Insane.
I am glad that I'm not the only one who dreams about kendo. Usually I dream about the entire sequence of Kirikaeshi, when I close my eyes, I envision the strikes and movements.
Although I haven't slept with Shinai yet, I think my husband would be quite upset over that one. He doesn't mind the cats or the kids in bed with us, but at sword, I think that he may draw the line at that!

I think I'm in level 3 and sometimes level 2. I don't sleep with my shinai nor bokuto, but all my kendo stuff are in my tiny room. And none of my family members will like to visit my room by choice. Although I'm still a slow learner, but love kendo ever since I started. Sometimes I drive to dojo wearing my gi and hakama, noticed some drivers staring at me... :D
Kendo always be one of my topic when talking to friends.

whoops i meant to say i am a 3.5... not kendo mad at all but I do find myself practicing my footwork and stance when i am alone in the lifts at work. The lifts at work are great as it has 360 mirrors and it allows me to check my posture and balance of weight.
Ok I do find myself going through the motion of a men cut when I am bored or on the tube.
people must thinks I am mad and say "what on earth is that weirdo doing swinging his arms, best keep away from him"
Oh well at least its I get to have a seat every time :silly:
Jenny I am very surprised/impressed that you were not arrested straight away walking around in your gi and Naginata. I guess you are in London and no one cares ;)

Those of us that aren't as pretty as Jenny probably wouldn't have the same luck with the cops.

HAHA! I like this thread!
Yeah- I have not slept with my bokken but kept it close at hand when I was staying at a dodgy backpackers once.
One time I stayed at a friends place and his flat got burgled. We went round the back of the house both us holding our bokken, in case we saw anybody- we didn't. So you may say that was level 1?
I do manage however to strike up the topic of kendo in just about any conversation with strangers just like Nishi does. I think that is an art in itself!!
I check KWF about three times a week and go to every kendo practice. I teach every so often so maybe I am a 2.5.

How crazy are you about kendo?
I am at level three but I would like to be at level 4. I have dreamt of teaching kendo. No, seriously, I came home after practice and went right to bed. I had a dream about instructing all of the students on various drills.
Scarey isnt it? Or perhaps it is my.... destiny(?)

I'd say somewhere between 3 and 4 - somehow I take to kendo very well. It's a very distinguishing tradition and you feel like you're participating in an art that has deep roots in the past and at the same time, is very modern and cosmopolitan. So it feels very, very exciting.
I guess my love for the art shows in several ways, some of which I'm proud of, some, I'm not so sure what I was thinking at the time. I have a AUSKF logo on the front of my school binder. All the bowing and respect has got to me as well. I came home today and bowed when the pizza deliveryman arrived at the door... :silly:

Umm... I think senei has hit you one too many times on the head... but even more interesting would be to not only bow to the pizza delivery man, but meet him at the door in bogu with shinai in hand... I'm sure he won't ask for a tip.
