So how many kenshis train at other dojos besides their own? I try to dojo hop as much as possible-well pretty much as far as the bus will take me ^_^. i want to go back to practice in Canada! I have to try California next.

Your always welcome here. I currently go to two diferent dojo's. In another 2 weeks I'll be going up to North Cal to practice up there at a couple different places. Also going to try out a new place down here. I like the change of pace of going different places and practicing with different places. :cross_eye

I train at Do Shin Ken Yu Kai, but also travel to K.N.M.S. in Manchester, Kagami Shin in Stoke, and on occaision Yoshinkan in Liverpool.

I'll be moving to Canada this year as well, which will open up a new door for training across North America...

Yeah, right... your nearest dojo to visit will be 600 km away.

Nope, Regina is closer. We're 800 km away :)

Lots of opportunity to travel though. Regina holds their seminar first weekend in September, ours is last week of February, Edmonton is May. Plus there's all the taikai - Steveston is mid-February, U of T is March I think, there's 2 or 3 other major ones. You could really rack up the frequent flier miles.

Or you could just wait until Winnipeg seminar in the first week of November, and decide if you want to associate with us. You'll get a chance to meet people from Saskatoon, Regina and Vancouver. Maybe some Edmonton people will show this year too.

Ive never met a kenshi i didnt want to associate with...I'm more or less free of social tension.

As for the travelling, sounds great!! I'm sure there will be a period of adjusting for us, but once we're settled...who knows!!

Neil; you know that the real purpose for keeping our dojos apart that far is to keep the number of ninja assassin/spies down. ;)

I train at two different dojos. I find that it helps to give more practices to attend, practice against different people, and you get the benefit of the differences in the practice styles of each dojo. Shiai kendo with lots of jigeiko versus lots of individual waza practice and kata for more technical kendo, for example.

*** Intented Summer Training Schecule in London ***
(My dojo closes during the summer, so I have to travel.)

Tue: Mumeishi or Hizen
Wed: Imperial
Thru: Hizen
Fri: Imperial
Sat: Wakaba
Sun: Mumeishi
Mon: Kendo Sabbath

Depends on if I have the time/cash or not... The travelling in between is rather boring, but worth the while. There is nothing interesting on TV at night down here!

I believe in the more you train, the better you get. No talent involved, just plain hard work!

Good for you! You should try practicing more at other dojos. You start getting stagnant if you play at the same place over and over again. It is also a bit refreshing to see how other dojos do their thing. I went to Mt View for a bit until something unmentionable happened. I am going to Palo Alto and once in a while I go to San Jose. Used to go every week until I injured myself.

Thanks Samurai999 =). Since i'm on summer vacation, i'm going to try to try to practice at least 4-5 days a week *says farewell to social life T_T*. All i need to now is get a new bogu bag with backpack straps to make my dojo hopping a little more convenient and less painful for my shoulder^_^. Putting all the weight on one shoulder kind of hurts.

Haha yes Samurai999 tell us what happened =P?

haha.. It was like 2 yrs ago. Lets just say I went into the dojo with 60 Bucks worth of 20s and 10s and left with 15 bucks. I did pay 5 bucks for the "dojo outsider fee". I left all my stuff in the back room where we all changed and the only door that was open was the one that we could see in plain view when we were practicing. I think it was one of the older kids, but I'm not one to blame people or other dojos plus it was only 40 bucks. I then stopped going. I might go back one day for regular practice, but not any time soon. Plus, I practice in my home town of Union City. 15min away from my house.

edit- Another person from Palo Alto who praticed with me that night had all of his 20 dollar bills stolen too.

dorkus, 4-5 days a week? You must be hard-core.

haha ohhh heck yeahh!!! I want to go to Disneyland! I love it there! Happiest place on earth =). Well, except for the extremely long lines. I had to wait about 2-3 hours before I could go on splash mountain. Do you think Moocow can help us all cut =P?

haha i practiced 4 times a week last summer. It was harddd waking up 7 am to go to asa geiko on Saturday mornings. Too bad i can't do that anymore since i have a job. What would be really hardcore is if i get to practice 7 days a week. Now that would be sweet!

Hmm, a lesson learned. When i played ice hockey, I just brought enough cash to cover the ice time, that's it. I didn't bring my wallet either. I still do that nowadays. I never bring cash or my wallet to the dojo.

haihai,

I usually came right from work. So unless I left my wallet in my car I don't think I really had a chance. Plus the person only took 20s. I'm still puzzled. I had credit cards and 10s and 5s and 1s in there. Wasn't stealing amongst samurai in the feudal periods means for execution? :D

Oh no, i wouldn't dare to bring a shinai to the "Happiest place on Earth". I don't want to get tackled down by 7854752820 security guards dressed in Mickey and Goofy suits. Besides, it'll be kind of tough holding my shinai while riding space mountain =P. haha i'll probably drop my shinai somewhere during the ride through space, or it might hit somebody in the face =X.
