First of all, I did read the Bogu Buying FAQ, searched the forums and I will ask my sensei when I see him again in January. :)

Nevertheless, I'd like to ask if anyone owns the GX-17 Bogu?
GX-17 (http://www.eurobogu.net/index.php?ucf=productdetail&ucid=3&upid=36)

I'm looking for my first set, and as I'm a student I don't have much money. eurobogu.net ships for free.

Can anyone comment on this set or maybe point out another one which is similar?

I have recently purchased several of the GX and GZ17 sets for my members. They are good medium quality sets that will wear well for a few years. I see the GZ is another 30 euros.

Men: The GX17 men is sewn with diagonal stitching on the flaps. The GZ is straight sewn as far as I can remember and based on the catalog picture. The GZ is a little better quality.

Doh: Same doh for both sets. Yamato nylon doh with different patterns offered for each set. If you can afford the 50 stave imitation upgrade I would suggest you take it.

Kote: The GX kote are priced a little higher and have slightly better materials. The GZ kote are washable and would have slight different materials. The kobushi or hand portion of the kote is also fully covered in leather which helps them wear a little better.

Tare: The GX tare has leather on the obi which helps keep the doh from rubbing a hole in the cloth. The GZ lacks the leather but is of higher grade construction.

All in all it is a toss up as to which to buy. If you get the GX set with the doh upgrade you will have a good set for everyday practice. I prefer to mix the sets picking the best pieces from each.

Hope this helps.

Several of our students have the GZ-17. I really don't think you'll find better value in a beginners set than those, especially as shipping is included.

Hello!

Well, if it don´t hast to be a Bogu from Eurobogu i would suggest you to buy a 4mm Machine Stitched Bogu from E-Kendo.com it is only 260$ yes, in words just twohundert and sixty Dollars. Sure shipping and custom comes to the price but if you order with colleagues of your dojo and so split cost it will be a very good Deal for an example on Kendo24.de you pay for a 4mm Bogu 489€.

I will order there in Feburary 2007 you´re also from Germany aren´t you? Maybe we find a way to let you order with us if you´re interested.

I've got the GX-17 bogu and I'm very happy with it. Got mine through bogubag.com and if I had just a little more money I would have gotten the GX-30. To date, I haven't had any problems with the GX-17 set and and, once broken in, feels very comfortable. Seems like everyone agrees it's a great set to start out on so I say go for it!

Hard to compare across vendors, and you can't just compare by stitch width, even within one supplier. You can buy a 3 mm set from the same supplier for $500 or $1500. The price is different because they aren't the same. I suspect the $260 bogu from e-kendo is worth what you pay for it.

Hello!

I have seen this 4mm Bogu from E-Kendo for less then 300$ in action, it is from the same Bogu manufactur as the Bogu from Kendo24.de for 489€ so in fact they are the same and there is no lack of quality just because they have lowered the price by E-Kendo.

Thanks everyone for the great replies!

It seems as if I've found what I'm looking for, but I've still got time till March, then I'll have to return the bogu I'm currently using.
And I still have to earn more than half of the money... :tired:

Sirsmokesalot,
thanks for the offer, but I prefer eurobogu. Maybe the set you mean is good as well, but my financial situation isn't going to improve in the next few years so I'd rather buy something slightly more expensive now that will remain functional for some years and not risk having to buy a new bogu soon. :)

The reviews on here show that it's a good set, so I will most certainly buy it in about 2 months. :)

More comments are always appreciated, of course.

I think you can save lot of money buying the same Koei product and model from Bogubag.com instead of Eurobogu. That's what I did. The bogu comes from Japan in both cases.

How much did you pay for shipping and such?

Right now if you buy on the special sets (http://www.bogubag.com/Bogu/Specials/bogu_specials.html), the shipping is free. The model you want is included in the special.

I don't suppose they would ship to Germany for free... And I don't think I will be able to pay for it right now. Even though my Christmas (and birthday and "school's finished") gift was a ticket to Australia, so I might have the money.... :cheerful: Even more gifts to come...

Does anybody know how long they have this offer?

I sent an email to bogubag to ask about shipping etc., I hope they will read their mails between Christmas and New Year's Eve. :)

Thanks for the link, Neil!

I don't know why they wouldn't ship to Germany on the same deal, but check with bogubag. I wouldn't count on them reading mail over Christmas, bogubag is a side business for the Strouds.

That special has been on for quite some time now. I don't know when it will end, but probably it will still be around in a month or two. Again, check with them.

They asked me 100$ (shipping From Jp to It).
Sorry but I can't find the GX-17 bogu on bogubag.. On Eurobogu it's 460 €. For a GX-30 you should pay 515 $ + 100 $ = 615 $ = 466 € with Bogubag and 630 € with Eurobogu. Make your considerations by yourself..

Byebye :)

I think it's the GX-18 on bogubag.

I'm currently waiting for them to reply to my mail, will take some time, I guess, as it's Christmas... :)

But it certainly sounds great! Thanks for the advice.

GX-18 is from the 2005 catalog. It is not in the 2006 catalog. He may have some stock of it though.
