Hello people I am new here, I didnt know there was forum for Kendo as well lol, it's cool. I have had Kendo training before. I have to say it's quite fun, I met lots of good friends there and had a great time together, now I am a college student and I have certainly put on some weight since so I have decided to go and do some Kendo and control the fatness.
I can imagine a fat dude moving around in fast speed and calling out names LOL (men kote!)

I once saw a guy practicing Kendo who was at least 250lbs and rather rotund. He was really good! I suppose he'd be even better if he lost some of the weight, but his hand speed was awesome and he was not too slow on his feet, either. His incredible hand speed could have something to do with his Iaido training, though.

Anyway, welcome Rawoo, and good luck with your training!

He really should take advantage of his weight and size.
I hate to say this but mate size matters.

well...not really...look at Eiga Sensei or Sato Sensei or Kenichi Ishida Sensei...

Then again some of the Europeans were huge...so tall that you can't normally block their men cuts.

I had a sensei who was 200cm in height, the first time I saw him I thought he was standing on something lol, and nobody wanted to fight him. coz if we screw something up he usually went like "oh come on, not fast enough or some shit like that."

"I had a sensei who is 200cm in height" -- Rawoo

Wow. That's over 6'6"!! I'm about 188cm and I'm not accustomed to looking up at my opponent -- I've never practiced with someone that tall. That's the largest kendoka I've ever heard of! I wonder if he has trouble getting bogu that fits properly... wait a sec... who cares about bogu when you're 2 metres tall! His reach is probably so long he could easily clobber you from to-ma without taking a step, or even straightening his elbows. They should make him fight with a wooden spoon to make it fair. : )

My first training session starts this wednesday, I am very excited lol, it's gonna be good. But my old bamboo sword is broken, so I am getting a new one. I really like my old one, it's pretty thick and heavy, guess it's good for practice.

I've seen a guest kendoka a few times who is about 6'5" and probably low 2xx lbs. I'm 6'1" myself and I find him scary intimidating, apparently a former WKC competitor. It's funny to watch him him spar with our club b/c most people average about low 5' somethings.

Probably Alex Shirran. He's really big and tall, but on the other hand he's also fast. Good luck with him!
