Hey does anyone own a bogu-like backpack? Here's the link to it:

It looks kind of nice, but I don't really see anybody sporting one. Does it look childish or something? Anyway, What's your opinion?

A friend of mine has one of those. Looks just fine to me.Seems like it would dig into your shoulders though.

I have a bogu bag from Bu-Jin Designs in Colorado. Very well made, kind of pricey though.

It's not the most comfortable backpack I've worn (understatement) - the biggest problem being the size/shape of the bogu does not allow one to use "good backpack packing" (i.e., put the majority of the weight low and close to the back).

I still like it though, and would recommend/buy it again.

Here's a link:

Let me know if you have any questions - I happen to have it next to me today at the office (practice tonight).

Good luck,

I second SRT's comment. I love my bag from Bu-Jin. Wife has one also. We went with the padded version and balistic material for extra protection while traveling back and forth to Japan. We also have the Shinai bag. Hold about 6 shinai, 2 boken, 2 shoto and all the tsuba and tsuba dome to go with them. :cross_eye

I just use a massive canoe gear dry bag
it has rucksack straps
it fully water proof so when flying there is no chance my gear will get soaked
it very visible ie very ugly purple
and is next to indestructible since it is made from heavy duty uPVC

Just cause something is sold in a Kendo suppliers does not mean it is great

Look around at the discount outdoor stores

errr the bogu bag from bujin is kind of a little too pricey for me
(-__-)*. I don't mind both of those straps digging into my shoulders. At least i'm not putting all the weight on one side ( Kind of afraid of sclerosis)

I can't argue - the BuJin bag is pricey. Even though I got it for 20% off during one of their monthly sales, it was kind of hard to swallow that price. However, I wanted a good quality bag (the cheapo bag that came free with my bogu was already starting to fall apart after only a few months), that gave me some flexibility in carrying options.

My intention is to be able to ride my Harley to practice one of these days and to do that I need to be able to strap my bogu bag securely to the sissy bar (before I got the bag I thought I might just use the backpack straps - but it puts me way too off-balance for my liking, esp. when riding a bike) . The BuJin shoulder straps attach with those quick-release nylon fasteners (Fastex buckles?), so I'm pretty sure I can get that to work. Now I just need to figure out how to attach a scabbard to the bike to hold my shinai and boken, and I'll be set. Anyone have any ideas?

Silly, childish looking, or not I plan on getting some backpack style bag before hiking up Mt. Mitake next year for the Midorinohi (Green Day, April 29) tournament.
