Hello, I'm rather new to kendo in general and have been trying with the small amount of information ive been able to scrape together; to find a style to study. The problem of finding a dojo in the north suburbs of Chicago aside I was wondering if anyone could give me any information on the Yagyu Shinkage-ryu or on Tennen Rishin-ryū or how they shape up next to eachother.
Thanks

Um, there aren't really styles in kendo. Maybe what you're thinking of is kenjutsu? (I don't think that has styles either)
As far as kendo goes though, there are several dojos in Chicago on www.midwestkendo.com (http://www.midwestkendo.com) but I don't know how far they may be from you.

I'm sorry I am afraid I rather meant kenjutsu.

Their are very few legitimate kenjutsu schools in North America and plenty of self proclaimed masters. Your search should concentrate on whether the sensei of the dojo's you are looking at are legit rather than the advantages/disadvantages of the style. Other martial arts forums would give you better information on this than this one.
