Howdy everyone,
I'm finally able to get a new bogu and more. I was wondering if the "Top Quality" 3mm bogu set combination is worth the money. The set includes
- delux Bogu bag Ballistic material
- versatile 5 hold shinai bag
- e-bogu tenugui white
- top quality 3mm machine stiched bogu
- top quality dark navy shoaizome hakama #10000
- top quality dark navy shoaizome double layer keikogi
Everything sounds good to me . Has anyone ever bought this set or at least parts of it. Could you possibley post pics of the bogu and such.
Thanks,
earth kendoka

It's an OK beginner's set.

The set costs 790USD.
Neil could you elaborate a little for me please.

Well, my kohai just got another set from ebogu, and it seems pretty good for a first set. The only thing I ask, though, is if you really need all the other stuff? I mean, if you do, it's a good deal, but then again why pay extra money and get things you don't necessarily need at this time, like another hakama, or shinai bukuro.

Could you tell us which set it is? Provide a URL or something? I looked on ebogu, and granted I looked pretty quickly, but I didn't see it right away.

Sorry, got confused with a cheaper 3 mm set several of our members have. I don't think I've seen the $800 one.

Hey Neil, I think it's the same bogu, it just comes with a shinai bag and hakama and gi as well.

Or I could be completely wrong.

Looking at the web page, without the extra gear it's $700. Just by looking at the pictures I think it's a little nicer than the ones our club members have. My impression of e-bogu's bogu in general is that it is good value for dollar, not as nicely finished as the Japanese-sourced stuff is, and that you get excellent, prompt customer service.

I have seen that bogu in my club and the same applies to the hakama and keiko gi. I have actually used the men and kote of that set before buying my own bogu (I chose a different brand, though). I remember that it was a well painted men, comfortable and the kote was all deer leather. They used to have a less expensive 3mm set that they called “high quality” (versus “top”) that is the one that Neil was probably talking about. That one was so so. This one is pretty decent. Definitely, if you need all that stuff brand new, it seems like a good deal for the money.

If you're shopping in that price range, have a look at the F23 set on special at bogubag. I think it's a little more - 750 including shipping but no bag.

Well I do think that I need a new hakama, keikogi, and bogu. I purchased all them when I was 12. Four years later the kote are falling apart, the men is a little to small, the hakama is too short, and the keikogi is a little too tight.
So from what I understand this bogu is a good bogu for beginners. Does that mean that it has a short "shelf life" before it falls apart. I would like a bogu that I could use for a quite a few years. I'll take a look at bogubag.com.

No, the one ebogu refers to as high quality one was a beginner's set. The one they call top quality looks better but as I haven't seen it in person I can't comment. F23 is a good quality set that should last you a long time.

e-bogu doesn't have short shelf life, as far as I know. AFAIK as the internet people say.
If you want good shelf-life (outside of general wear and tear of kote palms), you can go with e-bogu. Or check out the other bogu manufacturers listed on the bogu buying FAQ. I didn't rip you a new one today because I was in a good mood.
