Its obvious by the way she is holding the shinia, that she is kendo retarded.

'sides, why is she aiming past his shoulder anyway? And I'll agree--it seems like her right hand is too strong, causing the shinai to drop. It also looks like her left hand is maybe turned, although it's hard to see from the photo, but it's definitely too far up the tsuka. Not to completely pick on the girl, but his hand is slid up the tsuka so you can see the end clearly as well.

Why is it kendo always has to be portrayed in this 'poor technique' fashion? Moonraker comes to mind.

Well, this should be an interesting movie to hash over.

Reminds of a work buddie that said, :hey, Dave there's a kendo scene in transporter-2...you got to see it!"

I saw it and wanted to vomit!

I thought the scene in Transporter was over-the-top fun, just like all the action in those movies.

I gave up on Thomas Harris after Hannibal, just so disappointed in the direction he took the characters.

Then the movie will have to be based on a better story than the book. Noticing that I own a copy (and I enjoyed very much) of “Red Dragon” and “The Silence of the Lambs”, my wife bought me “Hannibal rising”. It seems almost unconceivable that they were written by the same author. Total nonsense.

I agree! :D I didn't know that there was a kendo scene in there before watching, but I then laughed VERY hard...

You remeber that movie the Best of the Best? that is before it went to hell with all the stupid sequels...I wish they would make a simular movie like that involving the WKC. I don't like tae kwon do or karate but that movie actually got me into a few TKD lessons.

LOL you guys are funny, liking the transporter-2 kendo scene. I can see now how it's funny.

was that really Gong Li in the Picture? I'd swim across a croc-infested lake for her!

YES. Remember the scene where they show the Americans training and then...

...cut to the Koreans, wading through snow, smashing trees with their hands, meditating under water....

I think of that image often comparing non-Japanese to Japanese kenshi!

Considering they lost, one wonders on the effectiveness of traditional training as opposed to physical prowess with some decent/good technique and lots of spirit. Jpn-US sort of comes to mind although the US kenshi were not lacking in technique. I look forward to going to Brazil: I will enjoy the beach, try kaschasa (sp?), make a fool of myself with samba and maybe even watch some kendo...

i think most anyone who went to WKC had talent and technique, but i think what it comes down to is who had good morning sh*t at the toilet that day.. there's just something about good bowel movement in the morning... keep the rest of the day going refreshed.

How true, how true. Nutrition also makes a big difference. I find I'm better at practice if I eat a big filling lunch (like dinner) and then don't eat again in the day-- or perhaps just a banana, then if I try to eat sporadically. Or like yesterday, where I was really tired and stressed, so I'm afraid I overindulged in tea and sugary snacks.

oh yeah..i loved Best of the Best..in fact i own it, took me awhile to find a copy, but it's well worth it. And if they did make one for WKC, that would be so freaken awesome!!!

I watched the movie tonight and it was better than I thought it would be. I think Hannibal was learning kenjutsu more than kendo given the location, teacher and time (post WWII europe taught by the daughter of a Samurai).

I've never seen a Hannibal movie, but then again, I usually don't watch those kinds of movies. I didn't leave grossed out, but still felt a little creepy inside due to Hannibal's actions.

Regarding the Kendo scene, I doubt that we will get a movie that shows Kendo like it really is any time soon.
