Many thanks to Hongsermeier, who suggested using baby powder on your feet to reduce blisters.
I now use baby powder all of the time. I create a little dust zone near my bogubag, and reapply.
I got a little nervous on my grading last Sunday, actually I was so nervous that I looked like a powder addict, I was constantly dipping my feet in the white stuff to reduce the friction caused by my sweaty feet.
Again thanks to Hongsermeier.. great idea! :)

I tried baby powder as well, My feet hurt less but I still had blisters.
Then again no amount of baby powder makes up for footwork as bad as mine

Baby powder - hrm. Never thought of that. It's not like I have any, but I used to blister all the time. Now my feet are starting to toughen up a bit more so it's not as noticeable, but I'll definately keep that in mind.

I have tried the baby powder thing for my blisters and it doesn't seem to work for me. I have a severe blister on the ball of my left foot and it slowly is callousing over but not quick enough. Has anyone tried using talc- like what gymnists use for their hands and feet?-- If anyone has, please let me know if it works better. In my dojo, we have a varnished wood floor and the baby powder just doesn't keep my foot from sticking to the floor.
Any help would be great.

Koori...That was the problem at summer camp. New floor, very sticky. I just used more and more powder. Went through almost half a big bottle. :cross_eye

Koori- I believe the major ingredient in baby powder is talc....just scented. :beard:

Doesnt it leave big, very obvious white marks on the floor? Do you have to clean them up afterwards? That would get annoying...to the point that it almost wouldnt be worth it. :paranoid:
So this is a cure for sweaty feet right? I have a huge problem with my feet being sweaty, and trying to launch with my left foot. Think baby powder might help?

Yes it does leave white piles and foot prints all over. After one or two other people walk over it there gone. There were so many people using it at camp you couldn't tell who was and who wasn't. As for cleaning up. It's just dust when your done. You can't even see it on the floor.
Do I think it will help you, don't know. It won't hurt to try. :cross_eye

I myself don't use it because we're only renting the hall and I would find it a pain to do all the time.
Oh yeah, And I want to toughen my feet up as much as possible :)

It doesnt seem to stop your feet toughening up, in fact it aids the process, by stopping blisters forming deep under the skin.(which then burst or are lanced, which softens the surrounding skin and makes the underneath tender.)
I used to get deep impacted blisters from friction.. but now nothing.
Again 3 cheers for the white stuff. :)
As for cleaning.. the dojo floor does not seem to be marked, but cleaning the dustpile afterwards is a minor drag. Just use a wet paper towel and wipe away.

When I blister I cut it all away at night clean teh cut so that there's no sharp edges. The morning after, If I have practice, I use the Elastikon tape.
You just take enough to cover the hole. Then heat it up with a lighter to make the glue stick better. Then press it on there. This can be painfull but its what we usually do in Stockholm. This should be done more than 2 hrs before practice.
I use this technique whe i get blisters like this http://www.stockholmkendo.com/img/issues/issueID-330/020616_5.jpg

It did hurt...
I got i on the first practice last time I went to Japan. At that time I hadn't practiced for a month or so and not been taking care of my feet as well as I should.
I do not think I rotate my feet very much, only on turning in kakari-geiko and such.

Just wanted to say that I've recently suffered from blisters and will give the powder treatment a go. Thanks for an interesting thread.
