Hello everyone,
Anyone who would be interested in the one year stay in the International Budo University, can send me an email or private message with their home adress. I will ask the International Office to send the paper with the information of the course etc...
I think everyone can be accepted to the program. But, if you are interested to go there, please be sure that you really like kendo. Otherwise, International Office's people wont be happy!!

which is the age range of the people that is in the 4 year program
what do you mean? there is very few foreign students that stays for the 4 years program, so everyone is mostly japanese and have 18 to 22 years old. Its very rare to see someone who is not into the same age range than others of the same years. However this year there is a 31 years old japanese who just started as a first year student.
is that answering your question?

I'm thinking about going to, but i think i can't manage there cause my base in foreign countrys is english but japanese arent quite good at that. I've already started some japanese studying (pretty hard). But i am not quite sure if i can speak some when i will go there. And understand is even a bigger problem for me. Anyone got tips or sites where i can find some study materials??????

best advice i have is: go to the country and learn there.
Study a bit (gramatical things) before coming here is good of course. But then again when you are in japan you see and hear so much japanese that you learn much more than you would in your country. well Of course it is obvious...

I've post a few messages(to kendomax) regarding to the IBU's forms.
I'm afraid is getting late and I won't be able to apply.
Actually, I've also sent emails to the university but nobody've sent me a reply.(sad)
Is there any other way I can get my hands onto these forms?
I would appreciate if anyone could give aa advice.

Just on a little tangent here, there seems to be a similar place to the International Budo University near Seoul, Korea called the Yong In University or the Korean Yudo College or something like that where kumdo is part of their curriculum. I was just wondering if there's some sort of similar purpose or curriculum that these two places share - as the International Budo University seems to be the only place of its type I've heard of, so its real interesting to see another place similar to it come up.

Among other things, it says that their Kumdo teams rank among the best in the world... are some members of Team Korea from this place?

Yeah I heard Yong-In university has like the best kendo. Two korean women kenshi on the Korean team are students at that school. I think one of them scored a DO on Japan at the 12th WKC. I wouldn't mind going there myself.

a lot of the kendo people want to become Police or Sport Teacher in High School.
Actually looks like than in most of the case even if you graduate you wont find a job.
It felt like most of the students are only preocupied by bukatsu (club activities). Studies come in second.
There is actually the Sport Trainer program where students actually have to study to graduate, and looks like it is not such a lame program as the other programs of the school.

Yong-In University has an exchange program going with IBU. They came over for practice and shiai while I was there. Very good kendo, I can't remember who won the shiai, but Yong-In won the drinking afterwards by a very big margin!

The program I was in was just 1 year course, you get a certificate upon the completion of it. With that I could become a regular student of the school. But I dont see why I would stay there 4 years of my life to get an useless diploma. So i came back to canada and will go back to studying computer science....in september
Moe- Kendofreak: you never never practiced kendo in your entire life? Even so they might just accept you because there is so few people applying to this program (particualy kendo).
But in that case you have to be completly devoted to kendo when you are there. And when you come back to where you are living, must do something to make grow the kendo population (open a club etc) and continue practice. Of course you wont have aquired enough experience in 1 year to teach very well (your kendo wont even get so good), but that doesnt matter if you are really are into it. Its a gamble.

Manuel:
It depends of the years, but there is a lot of strong kendoka. Last year budai made it to the Top 8 in ALL JAPAN team tournament. There is one winner of All Japan High School Tournament this year, but he is 4th year student now. Others who made it quite far in the All Japan high school team tournaments. Well there is quite a lot of "kendo stars", but since there is 250 students in the club not everyone is amazingly strong.
Moe Kendofreak : you study kendo.... if you want to study computer science or something like that go to a better school. There is some good schools that have strong kendo club too. ask around

Yes, I am Canada related because I made a reference to the donut shop, Tim Hortons.
I always get the quarter chicken dark at St. Hubert's. I hope that narrows down the possibilities for you.

What do they study at Budai ?
ITs a sports university, dealing with stuff like sports trainers, managers, rehabilitation and sports such as football, boxing, volleyball, athletics, kendo and judo.
As Max said, if you want to study comp science, go to a uni that does that.
As to the japanese, if you want to study full time, you need a high level of japanese proficiency. If you want to do the 1 yaer budo specialisation course, you dont really need japanese (but knowing it helps out tons) since they teach it to you down here anyhow.
Is the Budai team strong ? Compared to other countries, this place has 20-22 year old 3rd and 4th dans that are pretty darn strong.
Hope this answers your qs.

I'm planning to go to IBU next year. So I'm just hoping that everything will go as planned. One problem is beeing able to pay for it all. I know how high the tuition fee is, but how expensive is food and clothes? What figures are we talking about for a full year? Are there any scholarships except the one IBU offers one should apply for?

Plenty of them. Tsukuba-dai being one.
But everyone is around 3rd dan level by then, and I don't think they'll teach beginners. Besides if you want to do other subjects, your Japanese needs to be at a level where you can write essays.

yes the team is strong! They placed top 8 in the All Japan team competition, they almost made it to the top 4 but they lost in a tie breaker.
I think this year might be very strong year for budai, the 4th years students and 2nd year students of this year are actually quite strong. They have the talent to make it to the top this year, but kokushikan being back will make things a bit harder :S
go budai go!!

Yeah Max, the 2nd years are damn strong, Kawaguchi is a real devil (i dont know if he was the same way last year).
In individuals (Kanto Region) at least 3 of them got to the quarters (Kawaguchi and Ando being 2 of them). Unfortunetly got put out.
So all in all, heres hoping they kick some ass at the Kanto Teams and in the AJ Uni Taikai.

Plenty of unis here man, but you have to pass the Japanese Proficiency test to be able to get in.
Come to think of it, Nittaidai is a good choice...(an aussie friend is staying there atm).
