Do you live in/near Boston? If so, there is a website where you can find all the answers to your questions. (atcually I don't know the adress) Go to www.e-bogu.com and they have a link to the Harvard kendo club. And think there is one more in Boston as well. Good luck and enjoy.

yeah there are some clubs around your area. man, wish i was 13 or younger when I started kendo. Kendo lessons are usually pretty cheap compared to other martial arts that are out there. I was pretty strapped for cash too, so I know how you feel. I did somehow manage to pay for my lessons though. Did you ask your dad to see if he was willing to pay for your lessons?

Hello,
well, I didn't have anything when I first started and it seems you've already got a shinai so i'd say your set for a while, I've been at this six months and am just starting w/ a rental bogu and have just bought my uniform... so basicly you just need to visit a/some dojo/dojos and see what you think
Thanks,
W.W.

I think it depends on the dojo (or should I say how much money the dojo has). Most likely all you will need untill you decide if kendo is for you, is a shinai. Just get yourself a cheap shinai thats is the right size for you.

well, before you do ANYTHING (like buying stuff), visit the local dojo that you'd join and talk to the sensei there about these issues. Obviously, membership fees, etc., are all dojo-specific information, so actually taking the first step of visiting, watching a practice session and speaking to the sensei regarding your concerns, etc. would be the most helpful thing to do.
If you're in Mass near Boston, check out Ogimura sensei at Siu Fu Kai (if you're close enough to go there, that is.) Very nice sensei. If that doesn't work, there are other dojos in Boston that are good.

that's good that you have a way to pay for kendo. Good luck on your kendo journey.
