Phillip Kerkhof caught a 1,3m long copper shark with his hands while fishing outside the south coast of Australia.
– I sneaked up behind and grabbed for him, and luckily I got him, he told Reuters.
The 41-year-old fisherman was in the area of Louth Bay (Southern Australia), a place well known for it's sharks and the movie "Jaws", which was shot in the surroundings.

According to himself, Phillips had consumed a decent amount of alcohol before the actual event. The fisherman is said to have had at least a pair glasses of vodka before he went a rond with the shark.
In retrospect he realized it probably wasnt the smartest thing he had done.
– It is not something I recommend. When I sobered up, I realized it was an idiotic thing to do.

I thought Jaws was made in Martha's Vineyard, at least that's where they always talk about it on aintitcool. I don't see why Spielberg would have gone all the way to Australia to show the sea around the coast of America, not whay back then when you hadn't had the likes of the Matrix doing all their stuff there, and New Zealand.

Not saying he didn't catch the shark, and by the looks of him ate Davey Jones's head just raising sloppy journalism.

From my understanding, Sharks have rather rough skin which can cut an ungloved person. We can't see his hands in the photo, so we don't know if that's 100% accurate or not.

He's a braver man than me, that's for certain!

come to think of it, do you think you actually could kill a walrus with your hands? given that he stays friendly and not posing as a threat, do you actually think there is a way a man could casue physical harm on the beast?
pulling its tounge out is (hopefully) out of the question...

When I was last visiting Australia (c. 2002) the news was featuring a dead/dying blue whale off the coast of South Australia.
White sharks were eating this thing like there was no tomorrow.

The news part was the tourons (tourist morons) who were going out by boat and either -
- walking on the whale, and/or
- petting the snouts of the sharks as they ripped off another chunk

yes folks, Darwinism is alive and well in the great downunder.

In the full article in the newspaper, he related how he used to work in tuna farms, and how one of the things they had to do was control the sharks who would regularly smash into the sea-pens to eat the fattening tuna. It seems it was here he acquired his samenagewaza, because the smaller sharks they would simply fling out of the pens with their hands (the big ones they would shoot apparently).
