hi guys I'm just wondering, who here gets crampy hands when they start doing double shinai ? Is there a way to stop your hands from cramping ? Or is it my body telling me that im doing it wrong...I don't like my hands cramping because I cannot do the amount of suburi that I would like to do..my arms aren't tired yet...and they're cramping already and I have to stop. What do you guys think ? Thanks in advance

One problem maybe that you're too tense in you're arm at one point or another, another may be you're arms are just not used to it yet. If you have a cramp stop, have a rest then continue. by the way how many suburi do you usualy do?

All i can think is that your grip is too tight. Your grip should be soft and relaxed, your shoulders should be low and loose. Your grip should tighten slightly when you stop your cut "tenouchi", by turning your right hand counter clockwise, and your left hand clockwise (like ringing a wet towel).

Why do we get cramp?
There are three major factors:
1) Fatigue: Cramp sets in when our muscles are tired
2) Hydration: We get cramp when we have not drunk enough water
3) Conditioning: The less fit we are, the more likely we are to suffer from cramp

Some solutions
1) Work on technique as decribed by my seniors above :)
2) Drink water...
3) Get fitter.... (keep practicing.. but give yourself breaks... you do not have to be Miyamoto Musashi!! You are in this way for life.. take your time)

I hope these word of wisdom help. :) :)

How old are you Pokie if you don't mind me asking?
I get some stiff fingers from time to time but I always attributed
that to my age. We also do empty hand grip exercise in the beginning of the training and if I do more than 60 my fingers started to get stiff.
This may not at all related to your cramping but I'd love to hear anyone has same experience and/or solution.

You're talking about doing suburi with 2 shinais, right?.
In that case, dont :)...buy a suburito or just use one..you can't (I can't anyway) grip 2 shinais with a relaxed grip.
