Hey, I'm new to these forums and I am looking forward to more posting, I have a question...

I recently moved to US and had to quit martial arts temporarily. Does anyone know of any MA schools in Southern Indiana? Preferrable Kendo, Iaido, Naginatajutsu, Jojutsu, Kenjutsu, or battojutsu.

Thanks,
Kiyoshi-Kun

I sent tanner sensei an email I am waiting for her to reply.

Sorry but purdue is in lafeyette that is hours away from me and I am not a college student yet. I've heard of a Kendo school at IU but you have to be a student to go to the school.

No, none of the RMNF dojos have a website. You can check out our site if you want to @: www.scnf.org
We are linked to most all things naginata and the AUSKF. Let me know if you start naginata or not.

No, there are no dojos in southern Indiana or western Kentucky for the styles that you are looking for but you should be able to find plenty of kuradee or ty-kwon-doew schools around.

The Northern Kentucky Kendo Club is in Covington, Kentucky just across the river from Cincinnati, Ohio. We train on Sunday mornings there and have three other dojos within a 60-90 minute drive for practice on Tuesdays and Saturdays. We have a Yondan who lives in Louisville, Kentucky who may be interested in starting a Kendo Club. If you send me contact information I will see if there is anyway the Northern Kentucky Kendo Club can be of help. We practice kendo and iaido. Jerry. :old_man:

Also, If you didn't find anything else that worked out for you, and you did decided to make a trip, I don't believe the Purdue Dojo has student/faculty limitations. This is the dojo I'm in, and we have high schoolers that train with us. For more information, go here: http://web.ics.purdue.edu/~kendo

I have a friend who is from Montreal but currently working in Indiannapolis until March. He does a lot of kendo there with the only (I think) 5th Dan Sensei in Indiana. His kendo is fantastic because he came to Montreal one weekend to teach us kendo. If you send me a private message with your email I will forward it to my friend there in Indiannapolis. Good Luck!

That would have to be Hajime Sugawara most likely (the godan). Did you have a chance to try his jodan?

That's right and yes I did get a chance to play against him, his jodan is very strong. That weekend we learned a lot from him. My suggestion is to try to train with him if you can. Good Luck!

Kiyoshi,
I know this is a late response, but thought it might help.
I am originally from Indiana and have lived in the north, middle and south.
You can actually find one of the few (or only) Hoki Ryu Iaido dojo in the Western Hemisphere in Bloomington. While it is associated with the Indiana U, they do not train on campus, so not sure of requirements for students.

Hi! I was wondering if anyone here knows of *any* Japanese/Korean sword arts groups (kendo/kumdo would be best, but I'm not fussy at this point!) practising in or close to South Bend, IN? My job situation does not allow me to travel extensively on a regular basis, I'm afraid.

Thank you so much for your kind help!

I know a guy who does Iaido, in Indiana somewhere, actually he is a friend of my dad. He spent many years in Japan, and I think he is the grand master of his style within the US.........
