Hey guys, I'm buying a judogi for a good friends birthday and want to ask the judoka out there what good judogi brands have you had experience with?
The most common I see shopping online are Adidas and Mizuno.

And I should buy him a white one yeah? My friend is serious about judo but he's huge on competition.

The top line Mizuno are very popular. Also good are the top-line KuSakura. If he's a competitor, he'll want the competition cut versions. If he's competing at serious levels he needs both white and blue, if he's still just at the local level white is good enough. The reversibles suck, most of the guys just have two judogi.

Also make sure to get the sizing right, in good judogi they have multiple widths for each height ie not just 5 but 5L, 5Y, 5YY etc. You need to find the right sizing chart. If you want it sized perfectly, Toraki (www.toraki.com) sells custom-sized judogi. They also have stock sizes which are popular and high quality.

it must also be ultra ultra stiff so the opponent cant take a good hold

you could go for the doubled sided ones (blue on one side and white on t'other) but these tend to go two-tone blue after a wash or two

I used to use a ton of fabric softener, try to hold onto that.
I agree with Neil, Mizuno makes a good one.

was it summer breeze or cotton fresh? :D
yeah my good one was a mizuno
it came in white so it didnt have to be bleached in the bath either

make sure you find out from the distributor how much shrinkage you need to allow for also

Thanks guys, I think I'm gonna go with a Mizuno. Shopping for a judogi is compelling me to try judo one of these days.

Stiff for competition is great, but not so nice for one's tori in the dojo. And double weave likewise, but not so nice in summer if one's dojo is not air-conditioned. The Mizuno is a good choice.

I have a hard time staying *in* my judogi (well, the top at least) and that works pretty well for competition, too.
