The below video clip was on U.S. Hwa Rang Kumdo Institute's guestbook (www.kumdo.com). It was made by www.kumdovj.com. It features point highlights of the 2002 All Japan Police Kendo Championships. The last part of the clip is jaw-dropping.

Max! Stop being silly! They're not going at normal speed, anyone can see that.

They've obviously been SLOWED DOWN so that us mortals can watch them .... :D

I mean c'mon... Even I'm faster than that!

Video alone cannot capture my blistering speed. You'll have to see it in person this November at the JCCC tournament. But I should warn you that I never win: The shinpan are too slow to see my points.

This year I'm bringing back the shodan-nidan division cup to Montreal. Last year's fluke victory by a Toronto kendoka was just a fluke... plus, I was still in kyu category.

I'll see you in the finals heri0n... that is, if you can make it. :devious:

Is it on video tape or is it a computer file? If you can find some way to post it online, it'd be great!

It's digital media, but it can't be posted due to the large size ( two 700 mb .ASX files ) and also due to copyright issues I believe, but I'm not certain. Can burn CDs though.

A number of people have messaged me that they would like a copy of the VCD. It is copyrighted by KumdoVJ.com, so i can't sell one to you....

But, if you're willing to make a charitable donation to our kendo club library, i'll give you a copy. (http://www.halifaxkendo.org\Library.html)

PM me or e-mail me if your interested in this, and we'll arrange something. All of the money received (other than any shipping fees) will go towards buying more such VCD's / tapes / books etc... for our club library.

I'm not sure if the clip is sped up or not. The hata look like they are going normal speed, but if you look at how some of the judges are walking, it looks like its sped up. Damn.. That last part is OLD SCHOOL kendo. WAY OLD SCHOOL. I heard from my sensei that they awarded hansoku to the player who had their men knocked off like that.

haha.. Oh one more thing. Listen to the music and look at the way that the hits are timed. Almost all of them are in rhythm with the music.

thats the tough part. I'm in Canada, so currency will be in CDN dollars. as to HOW you can pay? Well, you could send a payment (cheque or money order) made out to "The Halifax Kendo Club", or i might be able to get a PayPal account going.

As for how much... how about $25 CDN + shipping costs?

kendokamax

Eh Buddy,

As you stated before as well, it is Copyrighted by KumdoVJ.com, then you should NOT be even attempt to copy the VCD .... Not to mention Donation or Not donation, still the same. The instant you try to copy it, you are already infringe on the copyrights..... PLUS, this sound almost like selling already... ($25 bux plus shipping ???)

I think I found the place where all these nice tournament clips come from:

http://www.kumdomart.com/

This place sells the CD's of several big tournaments. Unfortunately, it's in Korean, a language that I cannot speak. If you have a Korean-speaking friend, you can ask him to go to that site and order one for you (I'm sure every kendo club has at least 1 Korean member...).

Ok, i won't make any copies i guess. If you go to KumdoVJ.com using the babelfish translator, you can navigate pretty easily to their order forms, to purchase your own copies. Sorry everybody, but i don't want to get in trouble for copyright infringement. Its best to support KumdoVJ directly.

The competitions are really great, and the CD's are quite good quality. I recommend ordering from them if you're into getting Kendo movies. Quite possibly the best place for Kendo movies I've found.

Just a curious note. DId KumdoVJ get a license from the hosting tournament to distribute copies of their homemade video? FOr example we order fansubs anime until someone buys the license to sell in North America. Do KumdoVJ have a licensed company here.
I don't think so. Most of us can't even read the content on their site.
That is my 2 cents worth. Too bad Pacific Mall(chinese mall in the GTA) doesn't have it. They don't really adhere to copyright laws ahaha

i mean there wouldnt be any problem if you just ask money for paying the CD and the shipping. We are all friendly friendly kendoka. But 25 $ + shipping? thats more than paying for 1 All japan kendo video or 3 issue of Kendo Jidai.

sminki
9th August 2003, 02:16 AM
In KumdoVJ's defense, how do you expect KumdoVJ to get his press license (which he does have), buy/maintain video equipment, fly over to Japan from Korea, put in the man hours to tape/edit/produce video tape/CD and just have his CD cost and shipping reimbursed? Do you think he's working pro bono for the benefit of all the kenshi who would like to get their hands on such material free of any charges? Would you be able to do that? Even if you would be willing, could you do that? As far as I'm concerned, he's providing a valuable service to a lot of kenshis which has not been provided so readily and he can charge the $25 bucks.

It goes for other companies as well. They spend tons of money making something but it is not illegal if a person distributes it for non profit not including North American sporting events/shows. As you see in sporting events they have a disclaimer that their event cannot be rebroadcasted at all in North America. Kendo is not like that yet. THe matches they let people bring in Cameras.

Making it available actually promotes kendo. It was because I got to watch tournaments and some practices that I took up the art. Kendo here is mostly non profit. There are for profit places of course.

I would pay for it if I knew that part of the proceeds will go towards the betterment of kendo internationally. There are sites that have clips of the WKC matches and it is for their members but they don't sell it unless they want a physical copy.

I think you're confusing the 2 persons? KumdVJ of Korea != Steve of Halifax.
