Hi there, you've probably heard me, at some point, ranting away about how i'm coming home to Canada this october, so my question is simple:
Is there a custom for a student parting from sensei and dojo?
A gift is an obvious idea, and one i'm keen on, so if nobody knows of any appropriate parting customs i should follow, im open to reasonably priced alternatives.
Thanks in advance.....

Canadian sensei's can get maple syrup pretty easily in Canada. Maybe you should pre-pack a little something from wherever you are that you can't easily acquire in Canada. It's a nice thought.
(I personally like my maple syrup with a hint of Grand Marnier in it or little maple sugar candies. Ye flipping gods those are sweet).

I think you are misunderstanding something here...as the departing student, you don't get to choose!!!!
If you aren't on the floor gasping for air afterwards, it's not a proper leaving practice :D

Hi JSchmidt, I actually started the thread to get a few ideas towards something i could do for Sensei or dojo, just to sorta show my thanks in a more materialistic way....im not really bothered what they have planned for me  Its just that when i started the thread most of my stable mates got all sarcastic and started asking for gifts, and as i replied, "ALL YOU DO SHIN KEN YU KAI PEOPLE ARE GETTING IS AN ASS WHOOPIN!!! "
Theres no doubt what will happen to us when we leave, they'll be queing up pal, i asure you, i still need a few ideas though for parting gift/custom from my side though.
What would you guys/gals do to show your thanx, if you where leaving your sensei/dojo?

I was thrown in the deep end last night....after two hours jigeiko, they wanted me to kakarigeiko (7 cuts full steam) 14 students one after the other, then stick in the middle for enjingeiko...YA RIGHT!!!!
I really commit myself to jigeiko so i was more or less cashed after regular practice...i think i got thru 7 students though, and i was spent...
This wasnt even the leaving practice, this was just to punish me for getting married this saturday...(Aug 30th)
Im still looking for a little something for a parting gift...i think they want my head :nervous:
Come and get it...
