I stumbled onto this page about a while back ago. Sorry for holding out =X. Here's the Link:

It's kind of short, but this is the closest to a kendo manga translated in english as a person like me will ever get. I think this is the same guy that did "Musashi no Ken". It would be so nice if there was a publishing company that would translate it. Hey, was "Musashi no ken" ever a hit?? If it was, I could email Tokyopop.com of Viz.com and beg them to translate it. Doesn't hurt to try.

Thank you Nancy/dorkus. :)

However, the translation is ... interesting. I mean... "Busen students more scary than devil, but senior students were even more"... Not incomprehensible but rather painful. Doesn't anyone proof read this stuff?

No prob, Alex. Maybe it's true what is said about Busen students and their sempais :paranoid: . I guess they don't proofread, but it's fine with me nonetheless. Wouldn't it be great if it was liscensed ^_^? I was told if you read more of "Ron", it totally strays far from kendo and Busen. That's what one forum member told me. One of the sensei's over here in WA went to Busen.

The manga is called "Ron" and it's by Motoka Murakami. He's also the author of the kendo manga "Musashi no Ken".

Vagabond! That's a good manga. All about Musashi. Can't wait to get back to Japan and get issue 17 or so (whichever they're up to).

Kendo manga is kakowarui.

The english translated manga that was posted here is quite poor, but not solely because manga can't be translated to other languages. It would be quite poor in Japanese as well.

I have heard of a Japanese Manga called [ 六四三の剣 ] that is supposed to be as good as a textbook on playing Jodan.
Can anyone help with the furigana of this title?
Is anyone familiar with this manga?

「六三四の剣」
It's called "Musashi no Ken" and i'm reading it and translating it for one of my English students.
It's all about a boy whose father was the Japanese Kendo Champion when he was at university. He is really strict with his son and pushes him too hard. This causes friction between the mother and father in the family...
It's aimed at elementary/junior high kids in Japan and is great reading for foreign Japanese/Kendo enthusiasts.

Sbres,

Thanks heaps.
The son in the story is in primary school and uses jodan right?
I haven't read it but I might see if I can find it on Amazon.
I first read about it at Ichinikai.

Try searching Ichinikai and you will find a few more threads.

Thanks again.

This thread is good too.

It relates Musashi no ken to Jodan.

Has anyone actually looked at the main site here? Go here http://www.geocities.com/studentkendo/index.htm and click on their discussion boards. Prepare to discuss kendo! I'm learning already. :)

Technically Vagabond isn't a "Kendo" manga...

When I read 「六三四の剣」 I was still young (around 6) so I couldn't enjoy it as much as I probably would now. I would consider it as the best "Kendo" manga.

Yea, but Musashi and kendo are hopelessly intertwined already, no?

we in the uk dont get as much manga as around the world(bumber) but we get what we can get. if there is a certain manga i want to get i have to download it off the net. and when i do get it i have to settle with the subtitles but i can live with it.
