hi everyone, im new to this site and to kendo in general. im 22 years old and i live in texas. i found out about kendo after looking into several different forms of martial arts. i came across it very much by accident but it intrigued me. ive spent a short period of time researching it and it seems to be something that i would like to commit my time to learning. the only problem is that there are no kendo dojos anywhere near where i live. at least none that i know of. is there anything that i can do or am i pretty much out of luck. i am looking for something to get me into good shape and help me stay that way. and i am also looking for something to sharpen my mind and make me an all around better person. kendo seems to fit my ideas for that. any help would be greatly appreciated. thank you.

Dan,
Welcome to the Wonderful World of Kendo! (ooh, hope I don't get sued by Disney.) Here is a link to some of the AUSKF (US Kendo Federation) dojos in TX:

That would be a good place to start. Hope that helps. Good luck!

Hmm you sound almost like me, Dan. I came across kendo when I was reading "Snow Falling on Cedars". That's what got me into it, and I did a lot of research like you. When I was a little kid , I also saw kendo in some movie about 3 little kiddy ninjas, but had no idea what it was. Anyway a dojo in Texas shouldn't be too hard to find. Good luck.

well my problem is that i would have to drive at the very least about 80 miles to find the closest kendo dojo that i know of. i live about 80 miles form the dallas area and other than that i have no idea where i could find one. i would really like to learn more and participate in classes but im just sort of stuck on what to do.

Sometimes if you just contact the club and ask, they may know of another club closer to you that doesn't advertise or have websites or anything.
You should get in touch with the closest dojo to you, even if it is 80 miles. They will help you with Kendo in that area better than we can.
