Greetings,
Nice... haven't been here for a long time and I am greeted by a new design. ^-^ b
Well, I payed with the thought of buying me a shinai that lasts a bit longer (hopefully) and suits me. I use oval grip shinai all the way along because I think that the feeling comes closer to the bokuto which has in my opinion anyway a better feeling.
Since I was wondering about the Dobari type I wanted to buy one with both. I just found this one:

I am from germany and so the shipping will be around 40$. To make the whole thing worth purchasing I guess I will order a top quality shinai leather kit (Is a leather Tsuba in there?) and one of those Fuo Tsuba Domes.
Most of you guys are from america so you will have shopped there already. Please tell me what you think about Oval Grip Dobari.. is it worth it? Is Dobari really so much difference? Will this quality last a bit longer?
Are there perhaps other offers that come close and are worth more?
Thanks for answering my questions.

Im in the U.K. not the U.S.A., but I use koban gata and they help me keep my wrists over the tsuka, and also helps my left hand relax a bit more...theres tons of threads on this, if you scroll to the bottom of the page you will see a few related threads.
Dos'nt Eurobogu do a koban shinai? This should help out with shipping :D Also nine circles (u.k.) do oval grip, i have one and they do the job

I usually order from Ninecircles in the UK. Where did you get your Koban Gata from?

I got mine from nine circles, its actually only left hand oval and becomes round toward the right hand, but you'll hardly notice. Because its a chokuto style, where the wieght is distributed evenly down the shiani, i didnt like it at first but now its great, and its done wonders for my cutting. I dont think they do a dobari koban at nine circles but you could ask.
I do like the dobari koban better for shiai though.

Okay that is the one I used and still use. I guess I won't make any expensive orders just for a dobari one. Do you think that the quality of the bamboo itself, thinking of splinters and so on, differs between this one and the one from e-bougu?
Thanks anyway.. I think I'll stay at ninecircles... My whole gear is from them and I haven't been dissapointed.

I got the oval grip shinai from e-bogu, but it feels very heavy. Don't know if it is tip heavy or it actually is heavy by weight. I thought it is suppose to be a dobari type, but...

:D NOW AVAILABLE FOR BOTH MEN AND WOMEN!!
Musha is a Dobari type shinai that has an excellent balance. "This is the Shinai that I was looking for. It was designed based on few of my favorite Dobari Shinais. I strongly recommend Musha for all levels, specially for Kenshis who are active in competitions and trainning." - (Taro Ariga CEO). The bamboo was specially treated for durability, giving a shiny look.
Approximate weight:
Men 39: 470 - 490 g (Bamboo only)
Women 38: 390 - 410 g
Great Shinai from Ebogu!! Thanks, Stan.

Yeah but what Highelf's quoting is bare bamboo. They'll easily meet regs with the leather on.

I see....when he said "bamboo only" i thought, as opposed to carbon option or something....dont get me wrong, im all for fighting with a shinai under regulation weight :cheeky:

No, the tsuba and dome do not come included. You have to order those separately. I have an oval grip bamboo shinai from e-bogu, and I really like it. Eventually I plan to buy a carbon-graphite shinai with oval grip for practice and use the bamboo for shiai. Some may question my reasoning, but you spend more time practicing than in shiai, so it makes sense to use a more durable shinai in practice. Plus, the c-g shinai seems to be a bit heavier than the bamboo, so if you use it in practice, then when it comes to shiai, your bamboo shinai will be quicker.

Not to Jack the thread, but I recently bought my Gi from E-Bogu.com
My entire Dojo and all my Sensei's complemented me on the quality.. they seem do make things well at reasonable prices... good stuff.....
OK.. back to business..LOL

I use the "musha" from e-bogu currently, I like its balance and the quality is A+ , it's a quick shinai. I'm glad to see this thread, I've been thinking of ordering an Oval (koban), Think I will soon.
Hey "Nothing" cool signature...ouch!
