I was talking to a sensei last week, and he told me that there was a 39 shinai that has the same feel as a 38. He said it was a korean-made shinai and has the kanji for budo on it. His friend from Korea sent him one, and I'm going to probably get to try it out sometime this week ^_^. My question is that is it legal to use a shinai like that during taikais?--It's just only a little tiny bit longer, so it should be legal, right??Anyway, if it is legal to use, then I'm going to go shinai shopping!

Max length for men and women is a 39, just the minimum weights differ. So as long as it's not underweight, you're cool.

I kind of forgot how to convert from the metric system to the system we use here =(. How much does a 38 shinai weigh?
Hmm I think I'm going to purchase the same shinai as you, Raiza.
Hey Kiki, where did you get that kind of shinai at? Is it E-bogu's ranko shinai?

From Eguchi but I am sure E-bogu has them too.

Dorkus, my wife just started using a 39 that is womens weight. We got them at E-Bogu. Now if I can figure out what to do with all the 38 shinai and parts we have. Only problem is I have to be careful which shinai I grab.

Have the same problem. Any good pieces I donated to the dojo repair kit. As far as the rest I was thinking all the bamboo could make a nice design element in the yard or some kind of sculpture or funky lamp shade...
