Hi everybody,
I was on ebay today checking out kendo things and saw tons of shinai for bid. In the descriptions of some of them, they had something like "also great for cosplay." Can someone fill me in? I've never heard of this.

Thanks.

Cos in cosplay means Costume (next, think roleplay).

Basically it's fancy-dressing based on certain anime/manga/game/movie character.

www.Cosplay.com

BTW Confound used to have a thread on it. Go search "anime otaku" :D

In it's general usage in Japanese, it also means dressing up for other umm... entertainment purposes, ie. nurses, maids, police uniforms, etc.

(Which definition uses the shinai? )

I came across this site, Asaginokai (http://www7.big.or.jp/~a-a/kuon/), last year when I plugged "Shinsengumi" into Google.

Enjoy. :D

Don't laugh, there are places that would cater specifically to such a couple. Of course I've never personally been to one.

Oh Yeah! then think about after all, I hope they don't need a doctor to remove a shinai from ummm. Your appetite will gone forever.

The pictures on that Shinsengumi site actually look pretty decent. You can tell that their whole idea was to come away with some nice pictures...and I think they pulled it off. Their costumes are the most authentic I've seen, as well as the sword handling AND the fact that they're in authentic surroundings. Thats one goup of cosplayers I can respect.

CosPlay is something people usually do for Anime Conventions. They dress up as a character from an anime, do skits, role play as thier character, and stuff like that. Some people take it seriously, some do it for fun. Basically its kind of like dress up, except to the 'next level'.
