OK, so just had to resurrect this old thread to rave about a show I saw last night. All the Montreal crew will know this band but I had only seen them from their appearance on the Junos (http://youtube.com/watch?v=VThrORNCC5Y&). DJ Champion and his G-Strings absolutely killed it last night at our local jazz festival. Champion lays down beats from a laptop, directs a group of 5 guitars (1 bass, 4 telecasters) and fuses rock and techno together. It's really cool to watch, because it's all improvised and the players are all watching him closely for direction. They've got a kick-ass vocalist, too, who was mostly singing in French but it didn't matter, the crowd was amped and jumping from the first song. I haven't had that much fun at a gig in a long time. Their encore was a Sabbath cover that rocked so hard I couldn't believe it, and I don't even like Sabbath. If you get a chance to see them live, go. The video doesn't do them justice, and it's pretty good.

Of coarse.
It took me a few years to finally see the genius behind Tool, now I think they're one of my favorite metal bands. A Perfect Circle are also o.k, although their music is so moody it can cause projectile vomiting.
10,000 days gets my vote. It's mega ultra brilliant. Lateralus is magic too. Tool are most defo in my top 5 bands (probably in the top 2 actually).
I might give Biffy's latest another listen... didn't like it first time round...

Listening to some early nineties electro-industrial from Schnitt Acht. My brother used to have Slash and Burn which is the greatest thing to listen to on headphones whilst walking the streets at night. It has a fnatastic sample from Predator in there. They sound very much like Ministry and worth a punt. Also got there earlier album - Subhuman Minds, not as good, but it would have been spot on in the first Terminator film

"COUNTERSTATEMENT REF. „TILL LINDEMANN LEAVES RAMMSTEIN“
Since the rumour did alarm people that Till Lindemann would leave Rammstein after the release of the upcoming album, we are pleased to inform you that after consulting Rammstein manager Emanuel Fialik, the so-called news turns out being a fake.
„Neither Till Lindemann nor another band member plans to leave Rammstein. The band is currently working on the next album and is in an excellent mood. As the greed for news is the actual doping in cycling, this 'news' is only serving those who spread the same. Though the world knows now that EnEsch has moved to Berlin, even the poor EnEsch was shocked by the outlook to have to step into Till Lindemanns footsteps. I hope he and the fans of the band will recover soon from this false report.“

Music = Sound. Sound = Music. No difference.
Rammstein is metal. "Metallic sounds" are derived through the electrical guitar. Anything with an inherent grinding electrical sound is metal. Rammstein however is metal with a factual poetic lyric to it.
Even some of their music can be poetic in a general sense, than when compared to any other type of sound or music.
Oh and DJ music like Rob Dougan is emo? Chap..........

Metallica is what my irritating 15 year old brother listens to, are you my irritating 15 year old brother or one of his friends? Can i have my CDs back?
I'd say that Rammstein is metal, although i also think they are pretty crap. Metal-wise i only really listen to old stuff (Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, etc), and Black Metal (Mayhem, (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J43DYzljG-k) Immortal (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-VBdAY8eA9w), Absu (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S6S-zxbaJuo), and especially Agalloch (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z4ih3JVrRPE)). Boris (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6t3dHC2qcBc) is japanese and not BM, but they still rock my world.
I like a bunch of 'Emo crap' but it's hard to find good quality videos because most emo bands (at least all the good ones) never made any, but here are some live ones anyway, Rites of Spring (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_NvawdVCME) was the first emo band, then in the 90s what people called emo changed and became associated with bands like Jawbreaker (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2J73DX3S98Y) (whose singer/guitarist would later form Jets to Brazil (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AXhR_MrK-TI)), Texas is The Reason (no vid), Drive Like Jehu (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aOxV9UChgUY), Owls (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2pcJ11a0fQI) and others.
I'm not entirely sure of what you mean by dance/dj, but anyway, I also like it a lot. We have stuff like Boards of Canada (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2zKARkpDW4) and stuff like Soulwax (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lH-wuTV8TnY) and stuff like Justice (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fo_QVq2lGMs) and also stuff like The Rapture (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WFACpd4ow64) and The Faint (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4f7tgprbjtg) and Ratatat (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDTVG4o9t-A)

ScottUK

Sorry 'bout the 2nd post, but I've got to post the lyrics :D
Wynona's got herself a big brown beaver
and she shows it off to all her friends.
One day, you know, that beaver tried to leave her,
So she caged him up with cyclone fence.
Along came Lou with the old baboon
And said "Recognize that smell?"
"Smells like seven layers,
That beaver eats Taco Bell."
Now Rex he was a Texan out of New Orleans
And he travelled with the carnival shows.
He ran bumper cars, sucked cheap cigars
And he candied up his nose.
He got wind of the big brown beaver
So he though he'd take himself a peek,
But the beaver was quick
And grabbed him by the kiwis.
Now he ain't pissed for a week.
(And a half!)
Now Wynona took her big brown beaver,
And she stuck him up in the air.
Said "I sure do love this big brown beaver
And I wish I did have a pair."
Now the beaver onces slept for seven days
And it gave us all an awful fright.
So I tickled his chin and I gave him a pinch
And the bastard tried to bite me.
Wynona loved her big brown beaver
And she stroked him all the time.
She pricked her finger one day and it
Occurred to her she might have a porcupine.
Awesome.

To all the metal heads [which seems quite a few] you may be interested in samples from the new This Is Menace album here (http://www.thisismenace.com/media/prettygirls.html).
In case you didn't know, here's some info on This Is Menace, from their first album 'No End In Sight' ...
This Is Menace is a collection of like-minded individuals. No lead singer. No fluffy backing vocals. No radio-friendly unit-shifting hits. This Is Menace feature Pitchshifter's Mark Clayden and Jason Bowld and make intense, guitar driven music. The ten songs all feature different vocalists :
Colin Doran (Hundred Reasons),
Matt Davies (Funeral For A Friend),
Andy Cairns (Therapy?),
Jeff Walker (Carcass),
Justin Hill (Sikth),
Casey Chaos (Amen),
Paul McCallion (Hiding Place),
Karl Middleton (Earthtone 9),
Mikee Goodman (Sikth).
The new album 'The Scene Is dead' features -
Jaz Coleman (Killing Joke)
Mikee Goodman (SikTh)
Colin Doran (Hundred Reasons)
Jeff Walker (Carcass)
Martin Ives (Charger) and Julia Ruzicka (Bass - Million Dead)
Paul Catten (Murder One)
Justin Hill (SikTh)
Tom Lacey (The Ghost of a Thousand)
Charlie Simpson (Fightstar)
JS Clayden (pitchshifter)
Justin Sullivan (New Model Army)
Barney Greenway (Napalm Death)
There's also a DVD out next Month and they're touring in October [lots of them]. Sorry for the gratuitous 'street-teaming' but many of you seem into the genre but may not be aware of this many headed beast and the wealth of talent it represents. Stay frosty.

speaking of Soft Cell I once had the pleasure of walking past Marc Almond..
