Hi,
in a recent thread I announced that I am unable to grade in the UK this year due to travel plans.
http://www.kendo-world.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1438

and both JSchmidt and ethernot suggested grading in another country.

I have looked on the BKA website but didnt find any clue on how this is done.

Could anyone please help me with my inquiries?

Do you need permission from your governing association?
What ettiquette must be followed to grade abroad?
Does the language barrier hamper grading attempts?

thanks,
Paulo
:)

You need permission from your current federation (AKA the BKA.) Mail John Howell a copy of of your current menjo along with a request of grading abroad, along with details of the grading (Date, location).

Since all my gradings have been in different countries (UK, Ireland, Belgium) I plan to continue that throughout my kendo-career :).

There will be minor differences in procedures, but nothing worth worrying about.

I think there is a grading in Canada at the end of this year (any Canadians to confirm). And as Jakob said, you just need permission, and your done....move quickly though, i think you still need the two months notice required by the BKA and who knows what the Canadian Kendo Federation requires. Cool experience though, i think you should go for it if you can (i mean if your girlfriend says you can :cheerful: )

CKF gradings are normally held last weekend of November in Vancouver and first weekend of December in Toronto. We also do a limited one at our seminar in late February/early March. CKF just requires a copy of your certificate I think, although you may want to contact them to confirm. See www.kendo-canada.com.

Just relax and wait for the next one, it's only a grading.
