Hi,

I am a Kumdo practioner (1 year) and many times I've referred to the All Japan Kendo Championship videos for sparring tips -- some of the moves I employ (with a great deal of success) in sparring come directly from what I've seen in the videos.

My Kumdo instructors must know this for they have not show me the moves themselves but they have not commented thus far. Personally I don't mind the fusion of styles (kumdo & kendo), my sparring has improved because of this but once in a while someone will comment that my style is typically not the type endorsed by our Kumdo school.

Anyway, just wanted to share with the forum how much the videos (with the help of slo-mo replay) have opened my eyes to different movements, combos, etc. used in competitions.

I practice Kumdo and watch AJKC videos too. A lot of people at our dojang watch them. I asked one of my instructors if I could borrow some Kumdo videos and he gave me AJKC videos to watch and said something like the people in it were the best players. Basically, Kendo and Kumdo are the same (if they weren't we wouldn't be competing in the same tournaments) and there shouldn't be anything wrong with you having a different "style" than people at your dojang. If you limit yourself to just your dojang then you can't get as good as other people out there. Since the best players are the people in the AJKC videos, it only makes sense to copy what they do and integrate it with what you learn at the dojang in order to become a better player.

I think watching AJKC is good.

isnt it just the same as mitori(spell ok?) geiko !

plus watching all japan on video is funny. They have these funny announcers getting all excited about a point etc..

plus you can learn the interview of the champion at the end by heart if you are freak enough.

This is all up to your level of freakness!!!!
