sorry if this ones already been talked about
but i just got my hands on a new zatoichi film today
its by/starring shintaro katsu, and is meant to be his last one ever
and is set when hes a older
its pretty good, with excellent fight scenes and dodgy sound effects
plenty of blood spurting fun

Are you sure it's new? I think Shintaro's last Zatoichi was in 1989... and he died ten years ago.

hmmn, it says 2007 on the back of the box
so it may be a re-do thingy
i has watched it
a random sex scene of young bird with old zatoichi in a bath-ickyness
but lots and lots of random fight scenes
with a flying nose som quite graphic swordy stabbing and slashing and a bloke holding his own severed arm (sword still in severed hand) etc etc
£16 in hmv so not a bad buy
are you watching the pirate day on 5 today awooga?
i just found out it was on, so couldnt give you prior warning im afraid
:p

Ah, its the last zatoichi movie...like the 2oth or something. It starts off with him in prison, some inmates steal his food and pour his soup onto the ground(which he drinks) but a kindly inmate gives him some of his own food. He then beats the crap out of the inmate who stole his food. etc goes on to take on some gamblers, hot gangster woman falls in love with him, saves a young girl from being raped by a corrupt official, kills a shitload of gangsters etc.
Typical run of the mill zatoichi film...but highly enjoyable, sorta compiles all the favourite moments of the 20 or so other films he did.

The big deal was that Shintero wrote, directed and produced it.

A lot of cruel scenes there.
And I remember while watching the film, I felt weird thinking "is that what real Kendo would be if we use the real sword abondoning the bamboo sword: cut hands flown away, sword thrusting one's forehead, blood splattering all over.
There was even a scne where a man tries to test his new sword hiding whil waiting for anyone passing by to cut his head off.
I asked myself "Is that the naked reality of what we are trying to learn in the dojo?" and thought a lot about kendo after watcing the movie.

he made 27 movies in total its like the japaness james bond, with the number of movies i bet the actor that played zatoichi in the old one is a really good swordman from 1961-1989 he played his charater

yeah - in the same vein - I hear Sean Connery is pretty mean in the sack.
Mind you, he is Scottish.

why do people have to be so dumb sometime if you did sword stuff for that long(even thoe you do not thing it is a real sword fighting style) you still need sword training to do that stuff!

Either that or the miracle of Harry Wood.

Errol Flynn did a lot of swashbuckler fencing movies...does that mean he's a great swordsman? No.
Why?
Because in real life, people aim to hit you and not your sword.
