Samurai Champloo
They are all on my hard disk. I have 60go reserved for games, films, animes and music, and they take 5go: It's HUGE for me, and if they are still there, that's because they deserve it.

Great animation, okay characters, imaginative and interesting enough. Though there are stereotypical themes and plots, I thought that Samurai Champloo was enjoyable to watch.
I also liked Peacemaker Kurogane, which concentrates on the Shinsengumi during the Bakumatsu, but disliked the main character... he's the annoying brat type...

What is the hell is a Champloo?
Sounds like a hair product with dog crap in it.
Is it the same as Chanpurū (チャンプルー?)
With the exception of Miyazaki's Stories and a very select others, (by that I mean films with substance,)
I find the genre of Anime to quite moronic and juvenile.
Unfortunately, in America, my views are not shared by an alarmingly growing adult segment of the population (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manchild).
~And if you happen to be one of those folks who visit the Anime shops often enough to know the owner by name, and if you fill the shelves and bookcases of your home with those silly resin dolls, and if you are over the age of 13, then I invite you to take a stark, cold-hard look in the mirror.
So to encapsulate:
Under 13 and like Anime? good to go.
Over 13, and like Anime? You have a serious emotional disorder. Please see a doctor at once. :D
This has been a public service announcement.

"Chanpuru" is a general name given to dishes made by stir-frying vegetables and tofu. First, heat your frying pan well and cook the tofu to a golden brown, then add vegetables and stir-fry. Salt and season to taste. Chanpuru is the most-loved dish of Okinawan home cooking. By extension, the word "Chanpuru" has also come to refer to anything created by freely mixing or blending all sorts of things together. The special feature of Okinawa's culture is its "Chanpuru" mix of elements. In the Ryukyu Kingdom era, Okinawans readily absorbed cultural influences from China, Japan, Korea and Southeast Asia in the course of trade relations. More recently, and under different circumstances, the American bases in Okinawa have had a powerful cultural impact. Down through the ages, the Okinawan people have accepted a variety of cultural imports and assimilated them to create this unique and distinctive "Chanpuru" culture.
On Anime, I'd have to agree with you. I only either watch anime that has considerably accurate historical background, or if it's based on a classic story such as "The Count of Monte Cristo." Azumanga and Ichigo Mashimaro are the only exceptions to this, because I tend to find myself in the characters (It's more like watching a show rather than a cartoon).
However, the growing number of otaku (anime-obssessed highly unattractive male or female) is quite disturbing. Cosplaying, keeping hundreds of models that clutter up an entire room... it is really scary to observe just how far an otaku would go. Even in Japan, an otaku is not accepted very well; being an otaku is way worse than being a video-game fanatic.
Adults watching anime is like adults watching cartoons. While it is okay if you watch and enjoy and leave it at that, it is not okay to by 5 foot tall pillows shaped and coloured like Sailor Mercury.

I don't understand the love of Japanese cartoons that many people, especially my age, seem to have. I've seen a few films I like (Takahata's and Miyazaki's, especially) and Sazae-san is untouchable :D, but apart from that... I don't get it. Perhaps there are shows out there I'd like, but the stuff I've seen so far - nah. I find the majority of it quite immature. Most of my Japanese friends, if asked, would only say they liked Ghibli and Disney. They watched other stuff as children, and look back on it nostalgically - they even sometimes sing the theme tunes at karaoke - but for the most part they've outgrown it.
I do sometimes read manga, some of which is well written and helps with Japanese tremendously, but again there's lots of rubbish. I tend to stick to the stuff that's written for adults (no furigana, thank you ;)).
Hardcore cartoon nerds ('anime otaku,' if you insist) scare me. Oh, and for the record: I can't stand Ruroni Kenshin
Edit: P.S. - Goya chanpuru is the best chanpuru.

I personally enjoy reading Vagabond and enjoyed Slam Dunk and itīs anime version. Back when I was 16 i liked dragon ball a lot, but as soon as I met a girl and had another birthday I couldnīt stand it any more...
I donīt get anime fans either, I have some friends like that, not otakus hopefully, but some really love anime... I just donīt get the fun of it anymore.

I really can't stands anime either. I think it's amazingly innovative in the field of animation but find the storylines to be stupidly convoluted and badly paced.
Not to mention that most of the intense lovers of anime disgust me. You know the type... they populate YouTube with videos of them swinging a wallhanger dressed as some androgenous male character from a bad movie. These are the same people that learn Japanese from Babelfish and other free translators, buy Japanese pop records even though they don't like the sound and use badly worded Japanese phrases as usernames on websites.
No offense, I just hate everything you stand for.

Not a huge anime fan but I am starting to get into it a bit. I was always a fan of cartoons growing up, and still to this day but the cartoons made nowadays tend to be a bit pish.
Things like: Visionaries, Transformers, D&D, Ulysses 31, MASK and so on were frikkin bitchin to watch growing up.
The anime i think is cool: Bleach. That is all. BTW it is really good. Mega story lines and great animation. Thanks to the guys at dattebayo!
Away to atart watching a series called "Darker than black". I don't know about you but to me, that sounds pretty dark. :D

nice flames : i'm not a Cartoon nerd : i can't stand cartoone either now (i can only quote cartoone networks, or even disneys)
I'm not a nerd, i dont have a Naked Sailormoon Real size Pillow...not i have figurines. (I'm only trying my hands at a Gundam PepaKura..that's all)
As for the Japanese Anime, i dont like them all...but i find this still more constructive than all those CSI or PrisonBreak or NipTuck, or StarGate fans (although 3years ago i used to like stargate), i dont make Animes my way of life, although i admit being often in front of my screen playing...when i dont have my friends to go out play Baseball or hockey with.
And i agree that many of them are juvenile...but some how story worth it, and interesting design, its always fun to watch, and i dont really understand (nor blame) those who find it "stupid" and cannot fnd the "fun in them"...
I mean, what is fun for you?
thanks for the comment (although i didnt tought the topic would go this way ^_^) :ko:

As a Cowboy Bebop fan, I saw the name Shinchiro Wantanbe on the credits, and I simply had to watch all of Samurai Champloo. Although I had to wait a long time for the US DVD release to get past the 5th episode. I suspect the excessive wait poisoned my opinion of it.
With the exception of Miyazaki's Stories and a very select others, (by that I mean films with substance,)
I find the genre of Anime to quite moronic and juvenile.Moronic and Juvenile--no argument--there's more junk than the good stuff. I found Miyazaki's films to be very whimsical.
We each have our preferences, and I really don't like my TV choices much--Divorce Court, Judge Alex, Judge Judy, Maury, Springer, Days of Our Lives, Passions, All My Children, One Life to Live, Wife Swap, Oprah, Dr. Phil, Supernanny, Big Brother, Friends, So You Think You Can Dance, America's Idol, Scrubs, Deal or No Deal, The Bachelor, and etc. I'd rather watch my bizarre stuff like City of Lost Children, Black Cat, Tokko, and Invader Zim reruns than any of those. I really didn't enjoy Kenshin much, but I'd rather watch that than Big Brother.
Wile E. Coyote is a quite a role model. He gets smashed, crushed, fails miserably, and yet continues to pursue his goal relentlessly and with thoughtful consideration. I strive to have his dedication but with better success.

Probably because the more popular anime outside of Japan are based on the Shonen (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sh%C5%8Dnen) style of manga, which is created for young audiences and follows the exact same cliches.:glasses:

I find the genre of Anime to quite moronic and juvenile.Anime/animation is not a genre, no more than "live action film" is a genre. It's a medium. Even if you limit it to Japanese animation, it's still not a genre, like, to continue the example, "American live action film" is not a genre. Mystery is a genre, teen romance is a genre, horror is a genre. While certain genres are more popular in some media than others and in some countries more than in others, the three are not the same.
And quality isn't particularly linked to any of the three.
So liking something based on it's medium and country or language of origin is daft, but so is disliking something. Does how much you like Spirited Away really have anything to do with Beast City Shinjuku (or whatever tentacle porn cartoon it was the freak in my college dorm had), just because they come from the same country?

some weeks ago my gf scolded me for making fun of the ultra otaku japanese anime-manga geeks that are growing in masses by the day here in spain... she said they should be free to spend (rather waste imo!) all their money on whatever they want as long as they're not harming or annoying anyone else... on top of that she called me kendo otaku! mattaku... japanese girls have lost all respect for their bfs nowadays... lol
one of the lasts eps of samurai champloo was amusing though. not sure which one... i think maybe 23 or 24... samurai team (and a dog) playing baseball against an all american commodore perry team, it was so anachronic but fun lol.

Perfectly normal for a Japanese significant other to say.

I feel that most of you dislike Rurouni Kenshin because of the retards who come in here and ruin it for you,
claiming that they have a sakabatou, or know of some variation of the Hiten-Mitsurugi-Ryu. Those people should
seriously be lined up and shot. Hahaha.
But in all seriousness, have you actually read the series? It's really intriguing, and it has a lot of historical
influences. Of course, all the martial arts in the manga is bull, but keep in mind that they also have to keep a
look-out for a younger audience. An older reader should be able to ignore the cute "Ryu-tsui-zen" kiai's and look
for other, deeper meanings.
I think it is ridiculous to diss anyone who has a mild interest in anime. After all, the artwork is sometimes
mesmerizingly beautiful.
It's like watching Family Guy, or South Park (if you watch the right ones). And since I've seen both anime AND western cartoons and enjoyed both, I have no problem with people liking anime, as long as it's neither obssessive nor compulsive.
Oroshi: You must be pretty damn great at Japanese to not need furigana in Kanji. I go nuts if there's no furigana.
