Ok, so on this board you can read about everyones grade, see what country they are from, but I wanna see some stats on how old people are here.
So why dont you just vote here (and be honest now! its not how old YOU FEEL =)

You should add 60+ and 70+

As the saying goes "You're as old as the woman (or man to avoid the sexist tag) you feel".
Jeez, I'm old!

My Mom always says "you're only as old as you feel, and that all depends on who's doing the feeling!"

I'm 30 going on 18 (wish I'd started kendo 20 years earlier).
Here's a piece of wisdom for those like me:
"Men are only boys grown tall,
Hearts don't change much, after all."
(I didn't grow as tall as I'd like but that's a separate story...)

I´m 21 and started kendo almost 4 years ago... I wonder if starting earlier would have been of help.

I have a feeling you won't get too many respondents in the 0-10 or 50+ range due to unfamiliarity with/lack of awareness of kendo-world.

Well, I'm certainly not under 10 years old. I'm 54, started kendo at 51, wish I'd started about 36 years earlier or maybe even before that.

Over 30 is just about even with under 30.

Realise this Ziggey, when you get home you will be among the younger kenshis in sweden.
For two-three years most dojos in sweden have started special classes for kids and actively recruiting them, but I still think that the average age lies somewhere around thirty.

do you think this has to do with the japan boom and bust or is it just more people join when they are older and maybe have more time?

I'm only 16,and hopefully about to attain ikkyu. Lots of practice needed tho. Still wish that I would have started earlier.

Good idea Ziggey, I would be interested on another poll to see who is male and female. If it hasn't been done before that is.

heh me too. If i had started 2 or even 3 years ago i would have been in bogu long ago. Instead im almost in bogu. Oh well Shikata ga nai. Still as we see in the thread 16 is pretty early. Though when i have kids they are going to be doing it the moment they can possibly hold a shinai.

the most "dangerous" guys doing kendo in japan is in the range 40-50 i think. Some get their 6dan around 35-40ish and in the years 40 to 50 they still have a lot of speed and power left. That combined with about 30-40years of kendo...
