Hi, a friend of mine has his men too big for his head, the bogu he uses if from the dojo because he recently began to use it; I say it is too big because his chin does not touch the bottom of the inner part of the men, during a lot of keiko it start to untie.
Maybe within time he will find a way to solve it? is there a way to help him? a tenugui in the chin?..
Regards.

hi po5i,
i've had the exact some problem and have two solutions - a folded tenugui on the top of the head (good for extra protection too, but be careful folding it so there aren't any creases which will become a painful pressure point) or a 1/2 or 1/3 of a tenugui folded up to fit in the chin rest.
i have tried both and find the chin rest works best for me.

Does anyone else have a problem with painful mimi?
My lugs cause me some discomfort on occasion. Am I tying the himo in a stupid position?
As far as i can tell I tie it pretty much the same as most... but some of them get painful ears too.
Don't want to end up looking like a boxer or rugby player with cauliflower ears!

Don't want to end up looking like a boxer or rugby player with cauliflower ears!"Mimi"? Pull out the sides of your men behind your ears, it relieves the pressure. They get used to it after a while and stop being angry.

Don't want to end up looking like a boxer or rugby player with cauliflower ears!Open the men up before you stick it on. No matter how tight you tie the himo, your ears will be more comfortable.
But you married her, what will you do when she's gone?No no, she is my groin protector i.e. protecting everyone else from it...
...and she's going nowhere - I set traps before I go to keiko. No escape... :D

I barely noticed the people i arrived with... i think the old man bopped me a bit too hard.
A quick google returned
"
The most common style of tieing the men has the himo attaching to the fourth bar from the bottom, then looping around the back, through the top and back again. This is called the Kanto style after the region where it is popular. The second style sometimes seen has the himo attached to the top, looping around the back, wrapping around the nodo, then back and through the top again before finally coming back to be tied. This is called the Kansai style after the region where it is popular. Kanto is the eastern, Tokyo side and Kansai is the western side including Kyoto, Osaka and Kyushu. I've used both styles: Kansai is stronger but takes longer to tie. Either works well.

Might try and find some pics.. will it be in the kendo manual, Ozawa Sensei's book or the Jap-Eng Kendo Dic?

i used to use an old tkd shin pad in the top of the men
it folded round and was just the right thickness to make the club men fit
it depends on how much of a gap there is though

put a tenugui on the chin, that's the best way to deal with it for now

It's not for my head but for one kohai of my kendo club. The men it's around, 2 to 5 cm more big than the head (talking about the chin-forehead part),.

I would suggest getting a Hello Kitty stuffed doll. Placing the doll on the head and then securing the doll with the tenegui. Finally, the men is secured over the head and the himo is tightened and laced.

put another tenugui on the chin, if it's still too big then he should invest in his own men
