Sorry. This has probably come up before but feck knows how to search for an unknown (or should i say a known unknown) waza....

It reminds me of good ol' swashbucklin' where they wheich (you know wheich yeah?) the opponents sword out of their hands by performing a circular movement with their own sword.

Picture the receive from tsuki in the Nippon Kendo Kata Sanbonme but continue it right round increasing the angle.

Cheers budoka

I think you mean Makikomi or makiotoshi.

Cheers shredder.

Saw a clip of "makiotoshi" on the tube and it looks like more of a whack than a scoop round.... Is this what i heard as "attaki-otoshi" ? In kyuhonme of the kihon keiko ho?

Maki-age if you are throwing the shinai up, maki-otoshi if you are forcing it down.

Isn't Kyuhonme in kihon keiko ho is do-uchi-otoshi-men? . Is this what you were thinking of, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVQHkfq5roM

One of my sensei told me that using maki waza is disrespectful. That mainly its good for sensei's to use it against students to detect problems with their hand position.

One of the san dan from Japan with over 25 years of kendo told me if you have time for a maki waza then you have time for a ni-dan waza or a harai men. So just do that instead of the maki.

yes uchi otoshi but we called it something that sounded like "attaki"

Disrespectful? I can't think why

I think disrespectful against teacher - by trying to maki age/otoshi their shinai away, you are basicaly telling the sensei his kamae and gri is weak. Which probably insn't and you will likely end up doing kakarigeiko for a long time :-)

Doing it against same level kendoka or at shiai is probably OK, I think.

I think i'd probably bunch this in with some other potentially "cheeky waza" that of course i'd never do against Sensei!

...besides the only time i hit him is when he lets me!

I believe the word you are looking for is "hataki-otoshi".
