Morning all,

I have been struggling with this particular form for a number of months now and am somewhat at the end of my rope. I have practiced and practiced it, read Budden's book over and over as well as others and still can't quite get it right. Grrrr...

Could anyone explain this technique to me, especially the "second" part after the initial movements? Any and all help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Mine still sucks, but isn't it the waza of kote-suriage-kote?

What in particular are you asking?

Mingshi,

Yeah, that's the one. After the initial movements where the shidachi steps back and goes to jodan and then steps back again and goes to chudan, I don't understand the next cut. From clips I have seen it is a small flicking cut to the wrist. How my kumdo teacher does it and how he was taught however it is a full blooded cut in an attempt to disarm the shidachi. The shidachi takes the energy of the disarm cut and circles around to cut kote.

I guess what I am asking is what is your understanding of the second half of this kata, after the two steps back jodan-and back to chudan movement.

Thanks!

uchidachi makes a small kote cut, shidachi responds with suriagi-kote. I've never seen it taught any other way.

Uchidachi is pressured into making that small, almost desperate kote due to the persistant pressure he is under....the kata is about seme and control (aren't they all?)

Yup.

After shidachi's cut he/she moves forward (diagonal right) into hidari jodan. On his/her way there he kind of pushes the uchidachi backwards.

Yep, yep, yep and yep. It's a small kote and a small suriage kote in reply, then as Nils said. Also never seen it any other way.

Its uchidachi that steps back under pressure from shidachi. Then on returning to chudan, uchidachi makes the small desperate attack on kote. Shidachi counters with suriage kote. Uchidachi turns his wrists down as if disables then backs away a step diagonally to his left as shidachi pushes his kensen forward, then up to hidari jodan to threaten any further move by uchidachi.
