I'm going to be studying abroad @ Doshisha University in Kyoto next year, and I wondered if anyone else will be training in Kyoto.

Will you guys be @ the Butokuden, a university dojo, or a local dojo?

You should train at Doshisha if you can! Tough practice I'm sure but they are strong... you'll come back a new (wo)man.

I will second and third what he said. That is one of the stronger teams in this area.

viking, do you practice in Kyoto? how often do you go to the Butokuden?

Not very often; only for taikai and grading. I practice iai in the Higashiyama-Sanjo district, which is just down the road from the Budo Center. My Sensei are all teachers at the Budo center and are on the board for the Kyoto renmei. Give me a PM if you have any questions.

I practiced at the Butokuden last year, and I loved it.

I'm going to try to practice with Doshisha University's kendo club. I am, however, going to practice naginata at the butokuden (my sensei already wrote a letter to them).

Hopefully things will go smoothly, we should definitely keiko when I arrive ^^

Alex from KW is probably the best contact for Kyoto, but im not sure whether he will get in touch with you or not. I wouldnt worry about getting keiko in anyway, since you will be at university.

Sure thing. We shall do keiko for sure. It's a bit of a hike but you should also try to get out to the Shuubukan in Itami for naginata, and definitely the Shuudoukan in Osaka. We can discuss this later however.
