I was looking at the more high-end shinai at e-bogu.com, and noticed that they were "specially treated for durability" and gave a "shiny" look. I was just curious if anyone knows what the special treatment is.

While were in the subject of oil, has anyone ever accidently spilled one of those aroma therapy oil into the oil you used to oil your shinai?
I can just imagine, orange scented shinai:D

Aww I was going to say that the "special treatment" included: taking the shinai out for an expensive dinner and a movie and whispering to it that it is The One while caressing it's bamboo slats gently.

The mental image I got from this post is both humourous and insanely terrifying.

It means that the shinai has been specially treated to aid durability.
Ask them what it is that has been done.

Hahahahahahaha !!!
The sad story would be divorcing it because the relation (or the bamboo) is splintered... downright broken... then you change for a newer one... buaaahhh!! ... well, that's the problem with those "six month relations"... :)
