I was thinking about buying the ( http://www.bugei.com/subcategory_115.htm )basic iaito from bugei and ended up changeing my mind, but for the future I was woundering about the tsukaito? I called bugei and asked them if it was silk and they said yes, but on another forum a person said that the ito is cotton on all of the iaitos except for the last two wich are the most expensive. Do you guys know anything about the sword concerning the mater or know anybody else who might?

Check out this thread (http://www.swordforumbugei.com/ubb/Forum2/HTML/002360.html) at swordforumbugei.com. There's quite a lengthy discussion about whether that particular sword has silk or cotton tsukamaki, although there doesn't seem to be a final or official verdict. This kind of bothers me because at the end a forum administrator turns up who obviously represents bugei, makes an, excuse the crudeness, ass-covering statement about how their product range is always changing, and then completely fails to answer the question at hand! "Cotton" seems to be the answer of choice, though. Hope this helps you out! :)

Actually, now that I just reread your initial post, it occurs to me that this is probably the exact same forum thread you were talking about in the first place! Gomen, I guess I got carried away and didn't even fully read the question I was trying to answer! Unfortunately I don't seem to be able to find anything else :| I would suggest that surely if you asked Bugei and put specific emphasis on that it was that particular model of iaito and not one of the more expensive ones then they would be able to give you a correct answer. And if you get it and it's not what they said then you'd be quite entitled to have a strong word and as far as I'm concerned they should be responsible for refunding your money or replacing the iaito with a silk wrapped one. I'm sure they'd disagree, though...
*sigh*, the furstrations of shopping for iaito online, hey?

I'm sorry, I don't understand what you mean. How can you tell which difference?

You are questioning the wrapping on a sword that is a nice buy, even if it has cotton tsukamaki. If it had silk tsukamaki it would be a very nice buy. Cotton will anyway last for a long time, and should not discourage you from buying a sword that seem to be of great value for money. Are you going to buy a sword, or are you just filling up your cerebral harddisk for possible future purchases?

The basic iaito that's shown on that website looks the same as the one I train with. It's worth the money for a good training sword - makes cutting practice explicit. At the same time learning to do wrap <argggggh> is an exercise in detachment :(
