At home, is there a particular song or type of music that you like to play while doing hayasuburi?
A couple from me:
AC/DC's "Thunderstruck" and "You Shook Me All Night Long"
If Tony Bennett's more your thing, you can post that here too. :)

Hm...
U2 - "Electrical Storm" or "Lady With The Spinning Head" [extended dance remix]. Actually, I can't think of really working out to U2, though I love them to death. Achtung Baby is a stellar record none the less. Their live stuff is pretty pumpin too... like from the ZooTV or Elevation tours.
Oasis - "Rock and Roll Star"
Radiohead - "The Bends" or "Planet Telex"
The Verve - "Bittersweet Symphony" or "Blue"
Lynyrd Skynyrd - "Free Bird" (That super long guitar solo is the craziest, wildest thing I've ever heard in my life. Great for pumping you up! It's also what I listen to when I distance run for long periods of time, such as one hour. The live version has a 10 minute guitar solo!!!)
Semisonic - "Singing in my sleep"
- i dunno, that's just what i do.

The soundtrack to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Very, very good instrumentals.
Also I have a couple Taiko drumming CDs that are good as well.

On the swedish national training camps we usually use the "Born slippy" by Underworld from the soundtrack of Trainspotting.

I always have the tunes on during any type of workout to get me pumped up and going. For me, it has to be hard rock or heavy metal. Frequent workout CDs include Van Halen, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and Def Leppard.

hey phorest You've got a taiko CD? cool, it's hard to find one outside japan, wish I had one
for me, it depends, some times it's Air (Bach), random piano music, For once in my life (Sinatra) mostly flowing music, I have a bad habit of following the beat when doing suburi while listening to music.

When training solo I listen to Aggressive music prior to the start...
Marilyn Manson, limp Bizkit, Evanessence, murderdolls, maybe even a little traditional punk...
This is just to set the mood and get me pumped up. I cannot train with the music playing though, for the very reason aru-ma stated, about training to a beat.
On the way to a class, I do the opposite.. I listen to Classical or Sinatra or happy bouncy music... There is nothing that helps destroy the intimidating pressure from a senior kendoka than having "Love Shack" stuck in your head whist coming up from sonkyo :)

For me it's Annie Lennox and the Eurhytmics "Would I Lie to You?" Perfect tempo for hayasuburi.
Then switch to Dire Straits "MTV" and then a cool down.
12 minutes, great mini-workout.

My neighbours would kill me if I tried hayasuburi at home and during regular suburi I usually turn everything off, nothing to disturb me from concentrating on what I`m doing.
Oh, I wondered what Taiko was and found this site:

Yup...there are a bunch of em on http://www.amazon.com
They ship internationally I'm sure...so pick one up! Great to train to.
Personally when I'm doing Kendo I like more peacful asian themed intrumental music. It helps me concentrate and sorta keeps my mind on what I am doing. Hearing Limp Bizkit would totally mess me up while trying to focus on Kendo I think. But...thats just me!

Don't think I've ever trained to music..just one of thoes things I guess, however my choice would be "poggo" by System of a Down, anything by The Darkness or "NO" by Soul Fly.

Once during a practice in Guelph the breakdance club came in and just started throwing down to old hiphop, double-trouble and Wild Style type stuff. My keiko went to pieces because i couldn't help but attack on the beat. lol.
havn't tried hayasuburi to music yet but if i do it'll probably be to MF Doom, who candidly flip-flop flows, single handedly with one eye closed.

This thread was only meant to ask if anyone listened to music while performing hayasuburi at home. This is assuming that you understand the fundamentals of the technique and can perform it properly.

Nope. Thank the Scottish for that. And golf. They're pretty good at making games whose sport status is questionable, aren't they?
The Kids in the Hall came out of Canada. They're funny. That's good. I guess.

Lacrosse, hockey, basketball are all Canadian-originated sports I believe.
I was willing to believe the first two claims, but it really got my goat that you Canadians would try and steal basketball!
So i looked it up -- an interesting case: "The only major sport of U.S. origin, invented by a Canadian, James Naismith at the International YMCA Training School , Springfield, Massachusetts, in early December 1891." He wanted to use boxes as "targets," but there were none around, so he hung up two half-bushel peach baskets an each side of the "court." Yet another example of Canadian ex-pats doing weird, creative things in the home of the brave.

Try Kodo, a modern Japanese taiko group. They mix traditional taiko with more "western" elments and have masses of CDs out. "Best of Kodo" is a good buy with lots of rocking songs.
As for me, i never listen to music while doing suburi. I'd rather hear the whoosh of my grooved bokken.

Gosh, third post in a row, but i just had to apologize for that utterly pretentious sentence.
I am quite psyched about this pre-mature bday bokken, and it IS a nice groove to get into. "Get into the groove, boy you've got to prove..."

- Know Your Enemy

Dunno.. I think that they are just REALLY annoying. I have listened to their music but not for long.. I just think I'm not into the "cute kiddie" singing. I can't get in the mood to kick ass with that music. If I want something blood boiling, I listen to Young Gunz, other rap, Godsmack, Linkin Park, Metallica (oh yea!) etc.

If Tool is you're fav then try A Perfect Circle the lead singer is the same guy and I love them as well as Tool, and MuDvAyNe, and Marlyon Manson, and Godsmack, and Bowling for Soup, and Nickleback, and the list goes on and on I love music and I listen to it almost constantly I always have to have something playing even if it's just for background noise. But believe it or not with all of the loud angry music I listen to I still love Celtic music espically Enya. But when I pratcice I need something fast paced like MuDvAyNe to be playing or I just can't get into it.
